Chapter 10: Does she know?

"What brings you here, Aunt Melinda?" I ask straightforwardly the moment we sat down in the living room.

I haven't seen my Aunt since I was 16. She was that aunt that no one liked. She is my mother's oldest sister. Note that she was the sister who abandoned her siblings for a man. She would always come when she needed something and go whenever she wanted. I always tried to understand her but I stopped soon after. I can't tolerate her disrespect no matter how old she is.

"I heard your mother and father are stuck in Saudi," She said, clicking her fingers, "Hello? Bring me something to eat and drink, the heck?"

"That is not the way to speak to my people?" I grit out, not liking her attitude.

"Whatever," She groans in annoyance, "Anyway, I'm here to keep you company. We all need someone during a time like this, no?"

I smile a little, "Your company won't be needed. Please leave."

"What do you mean? I am your auntie. You can't make me leave," She uttered, making herself comfortable in my own home. "Besides, we haven't seen each other since forever. I've missed you, darling boo."

"I didn't miss you one bit," I said bluntly, hearing Annie place a tray down on the coffee table.

"It's almost Christmas dear," She continues, "You need family. You shouldn't have to spend Christmas alone."

"I have Annie and Gwen," I answered with a smile.

Annie and Gwen gasps in surprise, not expecting my answer. I would rather spend Christmas with them than with this aunt of mine.

"Still I am not going anywhere," She sighs deeply, "I'm tired. You, go prepare my room."

I grit my teeth when she stands up, walking out of the living room. There's not much I can do. She is still my mother's sister who I should respect. I just hope she doesn't make any problems while she is here.

"So when will you get your eyes fixed?" Aunt Melinda asked during dinner.

"Mother and father are still looking," I answered quietly, waiting for Archer to bring my dinner.

"I hear Max will be released at the end of this month," She brings my ex up, "Just in time for Christmas."

Silence falls upon us and I try to control myself. I hate it whenever my ex is mentioned. After what happened, I do not want anything to do with him. Whether he is released or not, I do not care nor wish to see him at all.

Archer brings in my dinner, saying, "Arrow, here's your carbonara and steak with iced tea. I have chopped it into smaller pieces so you don't have to cut it."

Smiling, I say, "Thank you."

"I didn't know you guys hired a new chef," Aunt Melinda uttered, "Such a cute boy."

"This is Archer," I introduce Archer, "He is Nanny Grace's grandson."

"Hmmm," Aunt Melinda hummed. She's most likely checking him out or judging him like she always does with other people she meets. "Do you have a girlfriend, Archer?"

I cock a brow at her question, shaking my head before eating my food. I don't like it when it gets cold. Food is best when it's hot.

"No," Archer replied. "If you'll excuse me, I have to do something."
