Archer Garcia's POV
"Archer, did you hear? Manila City is on lockdown as we speak," Michael Reyes, my best friend, informed me when I joined him for breakfast, running a hand through my dishevelled, black hair.
"Why? What happened?" I asked him while pouring myself some water.
He looks at me like I've been living under a rock, "Because of the corona virus. You know? The one made in China? It's spreading fast. According to the article I read earlier, someone in Manila City is a positive case. Since the city went on lockdown, do you know what that means?"
I gulp down the water, looking at him, "What?"
He closes his eyes as if I was getting on his bad side, muttering, "It means we can't go home till everything is back to normal."
"Bold of you to assume I want to go home," I stated, sitting down to start eating. He walks over to the table, sitting beside me, giving me the "why-would-you-not-want-to-go-home" look.
I simply ignore him and start eating the fried eggs and fried rice he had made. Michael and I have been friends since we were 12. Now, we're both in college. He's taking up culinary while I'm studying Nursing.
"Why not? Listen, I want to go home," Michael said, "The school sent a memo saying that students should be on our way home because the city might go on lockdown soon. I don't want to leave you here. If you don't want to go home, then come with me. I know some girls who would love to meet you."
I stop eating to give him a look, making him look at me with confusion. "It's a pandemic. You should stay home instead of meeting out with girls dumbass." I hit him on the head with my fork, making him groan in pain while rubbing the part where I had hit.
"Okay, true," He nods, laughing, "But you're coming with me right?"
I shake my head, "No. I'll just stay here."
"But bro," He dragged while I stood up to go wash the plate and utensils I used. "You can't stay here alone. What if you get depressed?"
I blink at him, saying, "Why didn't you take Nursing again? You sound more like a Nursing student than I do."
He smirks, saying cockily, "Because if I did, you'd be at the bottom of the hierarchy of grades."
"As if," I comment after finishing up, wiping my hands on the towel near the refrigerator. "You can never top me."
***
"Shouldn't you be packing up, you dumb fuck?" I ask Michael when I found him lazily munching on some pretzels while playing Call of Duty, eyes focused on the TV screen.
"I'm not leaving unless I know you won't be staying here alone," He uttered quietly before groaning in annoyance when he dies in the game.
I smirk at him, going to sit beside him as I watch him play again. He really sucks at this game.
My phone suddenly rings, making me reach for it on the coffee table. I look at the Caller ID, seeing my Grandmother's name on it.
I haven't spoken to her in 5 months. I love my grandma, but sometimes I just do not want to talk to her. It's because when we do talk, she'll try to make me talk to my mother who I really don't want to see nor talk too.
I wonder why is she calling me right now though...
"Aren't you going to answer your phone?" Michael glances at me while I keep letting it ring.
