What? Two Bethanny chapters in a row. Crazy! The sequencing just worked better this way. But we'll be hearing from Mr. Andrews next chapter. No worries. So again: this is a Bethanny chapter.
The Wednesday before thanksgiving is a total waste of a school day.
I know it. All students know it. Heck, even the teachers know it. Most of the teachers turned on movies and slept of a pre holiday hangover, or used the time to do teacher things. Anyways, in honor of the useless Wednesday, every year there's a party the preceding Tuesday. The whole senior class goes to Cami Fischer ' s house and gets sloshed. I didn't go this year; I wasn't in the mood to get trashed. From what I'd heard, Jason went and so did Mel.
Mel hadn't been texting me since last night, and she wasn't there this morning. It made me so very nervous. So naturally, I was ready to grill Jason when he walked into physics the following morning. He looked like he'd been hit by a freight train.
"Hey," I said. "You look hung over. How was the party."
"It was shit," he said. "But I'm guessing you already know what happened. Everyone knows."
"What happened, " I asked. "I don't know anything. Mel won't return my texts."
"She probably feels guilty," Jason sneered. He looked hurt, but was playing it off as angry.
"Why would she feel guilty," I asked.
"Go ask Buck," Jason said. "I really don't care to discuss it anymore."
I just nodded and looked over at Buck. I sincerely didn't care to speak to him, but it was for Mel. If something happened, I needed to know. So I walked over and looked at him, and he smiled.
"It's too late babydoll," he said.
"Huh?"
"It's taken Beth, " Buck said. "You lost your chance. I've got a new girlfriend."
"Ok..." I said. "Look, I need to talk to you about Mel and the party last night. Something happened."
"Oh I know, " Buck said, slapping a high five to his buddy.
"She won't call me back, I'm worried. I don't know why, but Jason said you'd talk to me."
"Look," Buck said. "I'll be straight with you. I'm an honest guy."
Yeah right pal, I thought idly.
"Ok..." I said.
"Mel and I are dating now, " Buck said. "We've been together for a week. She didn't know how to tell you, since you're still like obsessed with me."
Hardly, I thought with a chuckle.
"At the party last night," Buck said. "Things got heated between us. Jason came looking for her like a lost little puppy and found us. We were naked and well, he made a scene. So the whole school kind of knows we were fucking in the back room. Jason lost his shit."
I bet he did, since he was in love with Mel."So other than being embarassed, " I asked. "Mel is ok? She's not upset."
"She's only worried about your feelings, " Buck said.
"Well I don't trust you," I said. "You don't deserve to lick Mel's boots as far as I can see. And I'm not happy she lied to me."
"Let it out," Buck smiled. "It hurts, knowing I'm giving it to your best friend. Knowing she was screaming my name, over and over. Just like you used to."
