I felt a bit uncomfortable when Joel McNarie insisted I went out to dinner with them. He was my new boss though, so if he said jump, I'd be hopping on the roof because I needed a job that badly. Bryan, and Bethanny eyed me across the dinner table. Joel was off in the bar for minute, chatting with someone he recognized while I waited with his children for the food.
"I swear we've met before," Bryan said.
"Maybe," I said. "It's a small town and I've been following your sister, Blake. Sorry about that."
Because every knew Los Angeles was a small town.
"It's cool," Bethanny said. "We're over it."
"So," Bryan said. "What did you do before you photographed underage girls for money?"
"Bryan Mcnarie," Bethanny said. "Be polite."
"It's cool," I said. "I've done a lot of random jobs honestly. I haven't found my true calling yet."
"Well, you're like nineteen so..."
"I'm twenty," Aaron said. "But I get mistaken for older a lot. I almost never get carded."
Which was nice because I managed to buy alcohol with I it being of age. It was sweet.
"My girlfriend thinks I should grow a beard," Bryan said. "Maybe it'd make me look older."
"Yet another brilliant idea from Miranda Perry," Bethanny huffed. "She's got you on a short leash, doesn't she Bryan."
Bryan gave her a pointed gaze, and I let it go. This family was dramatic I guess.
"Oh shit," Bethanny said, looking up. "Look it's Jason and some girl. He's coming over here."
"I'll kill him," Bryan said, standing up. "After that little tape incident."
"What tape incident," I asked.
"It's nothing, " Bethanny said.
"That asshole videotaped a moment with Bethanny and broadcasted it at a school assembly. It's my brotherly duty to murder him."
I just nodded as Beth avoided my eyes, embarassed. She had nothing to be embarassed about. The jeep killer was clearly in the wrong. I stood up and looked at the young man, smiling as I rose up.
"Aaron sit down," Bethanny said.
"Nope," I said. "It's my new job to protect you and this asshole is a threat. Time to eliminate the threat."
"Dude chill," Bryan said. "He's harmless. "
"Who's harmless," Jason said, approaching our table. He had some girl on his arm who was chewing bubblegum in her tiny dress, seeming unimpressed. What a class act she seemed.
"Leave, " I commanded. "Now."
"Who's the caveman?" Jason asked. "Did your parents adopt him? Does he speak English or read, because he seems a bit dull."
I turned to face him, making sure he knew exactly how much larger I was than him.
"I'm the new bodygaurd, " I said. "And I asked you to leave."
"It's a free country," Jason said. "But I'll go if Beth here asks me to."
"Go away Jason!" Beth said.
"Fine," Jason said. "Hey, how's your jeep by the way?"
Jason looked at me and smirked. I really hated this kid. He turned and walked away and I relaxed a bit.
