Day 16: Write about ice
“Don’t be so nervous, Andy, you know how well that went for Elsa.” Andy’s sister Harriett said. Andy sighed. She always loved bringing up their many-great-grandmother at times like these.
“I know, Harriett, I know. But I don’t like meetings. I’m not good at speaking in front of people and I’m always afraid that my magic will cause something bad to happen.”
“Well if you weren’t worried about your speaking then you wouldn’t have to worry about your ice powers hurting someone.” She said, half-jokingly. Andy smiled despite himself.
“Yeah yeah, I know Harriett.”
“Now go to your castle so you can relax before tomorrow. Heaven knows you need the alone time.” Andy laughed, pulling his sister in for a hug.
“Goodbye Harriett, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Goodbye Andy.” And with that, Andy started the long trek through the snowy mountains to his home. He loved his ice castle, and was glad he could find refuge there. And the journey to his home was always wonderful; it gave him an excuse to use his magic, as if he needed one. He was the king, he could do whatever he wanted. But he felt better having a reason to use his icy powers.
When he got to a large gap, that Harriett always insisted he should close up permanently and not just when he or a visiting noble needed to use it, he did what he did best. Ice shot out of his fingertips, creating an elegant staircase for him to use, not unlike the one at his castle. With each step the staircase became more and more polished, a feat that Andy was proud to have achieved.
Just when he got to the forest, he thought he saw a figure behind a tree. Curious, he carefully walked over. What he found was a boy not much younger-looking than him, with black hair and warm brown eyes that were a nice contrast to his icy blue. He wondered how this person got here.
“Hello, I’m Andy. King of Arendale. Who are you?” He asked, kindly but with enough authority to bring truth to his statement. The boy cleared his throat.
“I’m Calum. I’m from Dalerith.”
“And what are you doing here? Dalerith is quite a ways from here, and you’re very close to my castle already.”
“I-I’m so sorry, I don’t mean to intrude-”
“No, no, I’m not angry.” Andy laughed. He gave Calum a reassuring smile. “I’m just worried for your wellbeing! It’s quite cold out here. It doesn’t bother me much, but you-”
“It doesn’t bother me much either.” Calum muttered. Andy gave him a curious look, but then it dawned on him what that could mean.
“You were thrown out, weren’t you?” Calum nodded. “I have a meeting tomorrow… I’ll have to tell Harriett to handle it.” He said, holding out his hand.
“Why would you do something like that?” Calum asked, taking Andy’s offer to help him stand. Andy linked their arms and began walking them on the path.
“I have a much more important matter to attend now.”
