“ What's up H?” I say putting my phone against my cheek.

“ How'd the dinner go?” Heaven"s voice replies on the other end of the line
“ Long story. But you can guess how it ended.” I say in return

“ Could you guys maybe stop over at Maeve's?” she asks

“ What??! How does Maeve's house relate to anything we're saying?” I say clueless

“ I don't mean to alarm you guys or anything but we're all over at Maeve's and her mom's being really mean, a lot more than usual. I thought maybe we'd all need to be here to support her.”

“ What did she say? What happened? Is it Maeve?” Jesse bombards me with questions

“ One question at a time please.” I reply

“ Are you talking to me?” Heaven asks confused

“ No!! Just hol' up one second.” I say into the phone

“ Me?!” Jesse asks
“ Yes! You! Both of you!” I yell frustrated

“ H. We'll be there.” I hang up

“ Jesse, I don't really know what's going on but the gist of the matter is; Maeve's mom's being a bitch again.” I say turning to Jesse

He checks all the pockets in his jeans and turns to me

“ My keys. They're in one of the pockets in my jacket.”
I check the pockets in his jacket and find his keys.

We half jog half run to Jesse's car that is parked in the parking lot of the restaurant we just had dinner in.

“ No time for chivalry! Get in the car!” I yell at Jesse who was about coming over to open the door for me.

“ I can open the door myself, just get in." I say when he hesitates as if to protest.
We both get in the car and buckle our seat belts simultaneously.

Im nervously tapping on my knees and biting my lips

“ Can you drive faster?” I ask checking my phone frequently for any updates from Heaven

“ I'm trying! Sheesh, don't stress me! I'm already stressed as it is!” Jesse yells gripping the steering wheel tighter

I fiddle with the seat belt and tap my feet on the floor when tapping my knees just doesn't settle it for me.

“ How long until we get there.” I ask after what feels like hours

“ Chill, we're almost there.” he replies

I check my phone again and I see 8:46 flash across my screen before the screen goes blank again.

“ I think my phone's dead.” I announce
He uses one hand to manoeuvre the steering and searches his pockets with the other.

“Here. Use mine.” he says handing me his phone

“ Thanks.” I say
I turn on the phone to see it's locked

“ Password?” I ask him
“ Fingerprint.” he responds

I have to wait till we reach a stop light before I can get Jesse to open his phone

“ Open it already!” I yell at him when he wastes  too much time

“ Magic word.” he reminds me
Just then the light turns green

“ It's green again.”
He puts his thumb on the power button and hands me back his phone.

“ Technically that was a magic sentence not a word.” he corrects me
I don't respond. Instead I search his contact list for Heaven's  number.
