It's a Friday evening and I'm the only one at home.
Mom and dad are working late shifts and Heaven isn't back from Jesse's game.

I didn't go because I thought I was coming down with something but it turns out it was a false alarm.

I'm waiting for Heaven to come home so I can ask her how the game was but then I doze off.

When I wake up, I hear the sound of the front door opening and I turn on my lights.

“Heaven?” I ask

“Relax. It's me.” she says, and I hear her footsteps on the staircase.

She  slams open our room door

“Guess what, guess what, guess what!” Heaven exclaims in a singsong voice

“What, what, what!” I mimick

“I said guess.” she whines

“I'm not good at guessing, just tell me!” I say getting excited

“I'll give you a hint and then you'll guess. It has something to do with Jesse.”

She looks like she could burst with excitement any moment from now.

“He got a new car?” I ask

I'm terrible at this guessing thing. I'll be shocked if I'm actually correct

“No. Think bigger.” she urges me

“He  won a million dollars in a lottery?” I try again

“Ok think a little bit smaller than  that.” she says

“I don't know. I'm not good at guessing, just tell me!” I say loudly when my curiosity has gotten the best of me

“Ok fine I'll tell you.” she says excitedly

“Drumroll please.” she requests and I oblige her

“Some scouts from Charleston met Jesse after the game today and it looks like he's going to be playing for them next season!” she says

I start off a high pitched scream and she joins me

“Oh my god, oh my god. I can't believe it.” I say jumping off my bed

“I know right!” Heaven concurs

“That's wonderful for him! Oh my god I'm so happy for him I can't believe it!” I say then after a few seconds I add
“Wait, that means he got the scholarship thing?”

“He got the scholarship thing!” Heaven  yells and I start another high pitched scream and she joins me.

“Call him, call him, call him!” she encourages me

I quickly get my phone from my nightstand and scroll through my contact list for Jesse's number.

When I get it, I quickly tap on call and wait. After a while he finally picks up.

The first thing I do is to scream into my phone.

Jesse laughs and says “I guess Heaven's already told you then.”

“Yes she has. Oh my god I'm so happy for you!” I can barely hide how very ecstatic I am.

Jesse deserves this more than anyone I know and I'm happy he got it.

Everything I'd give just to see the look on  his face when he was offered the scholarship

“Ah, it was nothing.” he chuckles shyly

“Don't be modest now,” I scold
“bask in the feeling for as long as you want. Rub it in everytime you're having a conversation with someone; you deserve it.”
