Chapter 16

Rylie spends the rest of the week going through her morning routine like a zombie she doesn’t sleep through the night.  After her encounter with Gavin she sneaks out of her house each morning hoping he isn’t leaving for work at the same time as her she doesn’t want another encounter with him.

She arrives to work early every morning, she hasn’t been late again since that day in the parking garage with Jayson.   The only way she feels she can keep her word to Jayson is if she isn’t around Chace.  He appears to be avoiding her anyway having Langston or Marisol conduct the weekly meetings she attends.   Not sure what has happened between her and Chace she takes a chance that he’s in his office early as usual.

She thought things between them were fine until he acted like she had taken away his favorite toy which would be her.  It’s a new week and she has to face him to iron out what it is eating away at him, she also feels a need to be close to him because of all things that’s happened to her right now.

Chace is dealing with his own issues, Ivana has been keeping him occupied with nonsensical issues when he disagrees with what she wants to do she calls her father and then he calls Chace’s father to tell him what’s going on.  Chace ends up tied up on the phone with his father for hours explaining the decisions he’s making.

Leland is driving him today, he’s stopping in at Braxton Holdings only for a couple of hours before he has to go in to Washington, DC for some business meetings.  As Leland drops him off Chace sees it but doesn’t pay much attention to the black Mercedes that’s parked several spaces behind them, he assumes it’s someone else coming to work.  Ignoring the car and going inside his building he doesn’t notice pictures of him are being taken from the car.

Getting off the elevator on his floor he doesn’t expect Evelyn to be in this early but he notices a light is on in his office reception area.  As he gets closer to it, he gets apprehensive that it’s Ivana.  She wants to be his date to the company cocktail party that will introduce the new executives.

He’s surprised and relieved when he gets to the glass door.  Rylie watches him walk through it, she hastily stands up her eyes are glued to this six-foot three specimen of pure masculinity in his bespoke three piece tweed suit that matches the color of his eyes.

“Good morning….”  She starts out.   He nods his head at her grunting out a “Morning” greeting.  She can tell he’s holding something inside she doesn’t know what it is she just wants him to tell her how he feels.  They’ve slept together twice, it occurred to her days ago now that he’s had sex with her maybe he doesn’t want her around him anymore.

“I’m here because I want to ask about what we did in New York together.”  She comments then wrinkles her nose thinking that didn’t quite come out the way she really wanted to ask it.

He understands what she means but chooses to be an ass anyway because of what he seen in the parking garage.  “What is it, you woke up with an itch that needs scratching this morning.  You want us to fu₵k out here or in my office, maybe you don’t care just as long as I slam it in you so deep you scream my name before anyone else arrives to work.”  He angrily quips.

“You bastard, I can’t believe you just said that to me.”  She simmers balling her fist up to slap him.

“I told you, I’m no gentlemen.” He says dryly.

“Damn straight you aren’t.  You know I’m talking about the evidence we gathered about the Mansion, the notebook we found.  I’m talking about the disappearance of your brother and my sister you arrogant beast.”  She’s angry her voice rises not giving him a chance to speak.
