Chapter 21

Chace hates when the mornings come, the dates with her in his dreams have to end and there’s no kiss goodnight.  He’s been grumpy all morning hoping to make his afternoon better.  Packing his things in his suitcase he can’t wait to get to his own house.  His father summoned him and Jayson to his home on their way back to Virginia.  They came to his house thinking something was wrong.  

Richard Braxton was upset with both of his sons, chastising them well into the early morning hours over the situation with Monique.  Jayson started telling their father about what happened at the warehouse.  Chace had to reveal his conversation with Asa James and Quinton to his father.  His father was furious he didn’t know about any of it before it happened.  He yelled at Chace for putting himself in such danger and made them go over everything that happened since Jayson started hooking up with Monique. 

 Chace has stayed longer than he anticipated he and Jayson spent the night.  He’s tired of hearing Jayson go on and on about how he can’t wait to get back to work and see Rylie every day. 

Chace hasn’t revealed to him that Rylie has put in for one of the executive positions.  He hasn’t revealed a lot of things especially to himself.  He’s still trying to hide what he feels for her, he ended up taking Jade out to dinner the last night they were in New York.  They talked for hours, it was really the first time they had done that instead of just crawling between the sheets to satisfy their lust for one another.  After they talked and he took Jade back to her hotel she still tried to get him between the sheets with her but he resisted realizing if he did it, it would be because he was hurt over Rylie’s perceived feelings for his brother.  

Jayson told him about talking to Rylie in the parking garage at work and about kissing her in their father’s library.  He admitted she didn’t respond back to him but feels it only temporary that she doesn’t have the same feelings for him he is beginning to feel for her.  He seems to think they will grow even closer once he returns to work.   

Chace doesn’t doubt what he says. Rylie may be the type of woman he needs in his life to finally settle down, she already has a positive effect on him.  Jayson put himself in danger because she was threatened, he’s never done anything that shows he cared that much about his own wife. 

Chace doesn’t want to define his relationship with Rylie and it’s obvious to him she doesn’t want to define it either.  Yet he can’t reconcile his feelings about the relationship Jayson has with her.  She didn’t tell him about secretly meeting up with Jayson he had to learn about Jayson passionately kissing her when she was drunk.  He doesn’t believe she would have told him sober.  Now that Marisol has called him to tell him there’s a sex tape of Jayson and Rylie floating around work.  He’s confused, hurt and angered.   

He feels there’s a connection between him and Rylie but it’s apparent she is struggling with it, she’s embarrassed about the chemistry between them.  It shows every time they are alone. 

His phone rings and lights up, It’s Jackson Blaine.  He has a man tailing Rylie, he’s giving Chace a report on her whereabouts, telling him that she seems to have gone back to her house.  They have someone watching her.  He tells Chace he is on his way to get her.  They don’t want her there alone just yet they’ve received some disturbing information about one of her neighbors. 

Chace asks him what he means, he’s already leaving his room on his way to his car.  As he rushes down the stairs Jayson sees him on the phone. 

“What’s going on….where are you going.”  Jayson’s in his face like the brat brother he was as a child. 

“Not now….I’m on the phone.”  Chace hurriedly says trying to listen to the detective.  The detective tells him that her neighbor Gavin Rosedale has been previously arrested for domestic abuse and stalking of his former girlfriend.  They caught him snooping around Rylie’s basement window, he claimed he thought he saw someone else around her place and he was just checking it out to make sure she was safe.  They had nothing to hold him on and let him go.
