Chapter 17

The black Mercedes CLS pulls slowly down the sidewalk near the coffee shop circling around the neighborhood for the second time.  Its tented windows make it harder for Monique Cameron to see inside it.  She’s afraid to leave the meet up place where she reluctantly agreed to meet Margo Braxton to get her payoff for the deal they made.  She should have known Margo would betray her, she’s more than twenty minutes late and the coffee aroma floating through the shop is making her sick.

Monique can’t be sure if the car she keeps seeing is some random person with a similar car or is it him, her ex-boyfriend and manager at the Mansion, Quinton Harlow.

She foolishly believed Margo was still willing to follow through with the deal that they had originally made to set Jayson up in an affair so that Margo could collect her full amount on their pre-nup agreement before their marriage made it to five years and Monique could make enough money from the deal to quit working for Quinton at the Mansion.

Monique at first thought meeting Jayson at her sister’s job was the best thing that could have happened to her.  It only took a few dates with him before he became smitten with her.  She began to think she wouldn’t have to return to work at the Mansion anymore, she could finally leave behind the seedy life she had unintentionally created for herself but didn’t want to tell her naive younger sister about.

Monique has always been the one with visions of having a glamorous lifestyle.   She had a short opportunity to live one when she traveled from country to country doing modeling jobs while Rylie was away in college obtaining her college degree.   She can’t do what Rylie is doing working in a boring eight to four-thirty job five days a week.   Because she doesn’t want to work that hard her modeling opportunities dried up and she was forced to return back to her hometown.  The only thing she had left to fall back on was Rylie and men, they usually give her what she wants, what she has to give up in return is tolerable at times sometimes it’s very enjoyable.

Being the girlfriend of the manager at the Mansion was tolerable    Quinton is a businessman of illegal means.  He looks for opportunities to make his money off of people’s misfortune or deceptive behavior.   She only had to put up with men pawing on her long enough to pick up the extortion money they owed Quinton he used her as his mule to collect the payments.  As long as she was his girlfriend she didn’t have to do the things some of the other girls did to make extra money at the Mansion.

Monique’s involvement with billionaire Jayson Braxton was by accident and initially enjoyable but limited.  Jayson is handsome, fun, he knows how to romance her.  After dating for a few months he informed her their affair has to stay secret from everyone she knows.  It was fine with her, she was keeping her own secrets she didn’t want Quinton to know she was having an affair with a billionaire.  He wouldn’t care that she was cheating on him he would only see dollar signs wanting to blackmail Jayson because of the conduct clause in his marriage.  Jayson thought of Margo as nothing but a gold-digger when their marriage started to unravel.  After his father cut him off of his inheritance, he decided he wanted to hold onto what money he had not knowing when his father would again let him have access to it or if he had to wait until he turned thirty.

Monique was on the verge of telling Jayson about her secret life at the mansion when he revealed the information about his conduct clause in his marriage agreement.  She didn’t think it a good time to tell him the truth about this part of her life, she felt her secret was safe because her own sister had no knowledge of what she really did at the Mansion.

What neither counted on was Jayson’s wife Margo learning about them.  She didn’t let on she knew to Jayson, she approached Monique threatening to tell Quinton about them.  Monique tried to make her understand she didn’t know what she was getting into, but Margo was adamant.  Monique agreed to break things off but learned it wasn’t what Margo wanted.
