Chapter 67

Monique Cameron is taken from her friends and family right away to serve jail time of ninety days. Emilio warned them all that it was possible. Monique believed she would serve more time than she got. She has tears in her eyes but feels like she can do ninety days standing on her head. She gives herself a little pep talk thinking of the conversation she had with her Aunt Katie just before the trial, her words are still in her head.

"You served eighteen months before. Seems like you didn't learn from that. If you have to serve some time for this child use the time to work on yourself. Think about your life and what's important. You have a child and a good man on the other side waiting for you to do right by them. I love you baby and so does your sister. Look what she's gone through for you. You're not a cat, you don't get nine lives but your damn near close to it Monique. Get your shit together and come out on the other side as a whole person."

Trying to hold it together she can't look at the faces anymore of the people she cares about or she won't make it. She avoids eye contact with Jackson knowing how much she's hurting him but if she looks at him she will break down. She wants to ask him to wait for her but how can she do that feeling he deserves better. The night she spent with him was the best night of her life. She felt loved and protected, warm and secured in his blanket of love surrounding her. She can hold onto that while she serves her time.

With all of the charges against her there were four charges that remained of extortion. During the search of Rylie's townhouse, Rolls of money were found in shoeboxes. Some of the money rolls were labeled with the blackmailed victim's names, dates, proclivity and amount of money received. Those names were of prominent men with sympathetic friends in high places and damage to their careers.

The prosecution threatened to go after Rylie since the money was found in her townhouse if the charges were dismissed or thrown out against Monique for being the runner to pick up the extorted funds. Her case is so high profile and the media is screaming there's a conspiracy to get everyone involved off.

The Justice Department is looking over the prosecutor's shoulder and so is the FBI. Jamison is out to get a promotion, he wants some penitence for her involvement. There are rumors that he is going to run for a public office in a few years and a conviction of someone in this case will look good on his record. He threatened to go after Rylie if Monique didn't accept the charge. She has a full buffet of charges against her that Emilio was able to get thrown out. This one is a direct result of Jamison being the ass that he is in his push for it to stick. Hopefully it quenches the thirst of the blackmailed victims out for revenge.

Before the trial Monique told Emilio she was tired of fighting and refused to have on her conscious her pregnant sister charged falsely with anything she had actually done. Rylie is too far along in her pregnancy she told him. She worried that this would cause her to much additional stress as if she hasn't been under enough. She swore Emilio to secrecy yelling at him that he was her attorney and had to do this her way when he said he could represent Rylie on this case and get it thrown out.

Monique cried for two days and refused to talk to Jackson about it. He is still upset feeling responsible as he was the one that found the money and had it removed from the townhouse.

Monique looks back one more time despite not wanting to as she's carried away knowing she's going to miss the birth of her sister's baby. Looking at Chace's face she feels bad for him, he kept assuring Rylie that she would be around and now she isn't going to be. She looks around for Jackson and doesn't see him before she's taken down the hallway.

Although the video tape of what happened on the veranda the night Gavin was killed was found, no one in the courtroom seen it. The judge watched it behind closed doors and decided it should not be a part of the evidence used against Monique Cameron to sway the jurors. The charges for manslaughter against her were dropped.
