Chapter 26

Emilio told Rylie to give him a dollar while they were still in the conference room at Braxton Holdings.  Rylie didn’t understand but dug around in her pocket and found one to give him.  He told her she just retained him as her lawyer until they could get the kind she might need.   

Jayson gets up from his seat to get a cup of coffee.  He and Chace have been sitting in the waiting area for almost two hours while the police question Rylie. 

The interview room they are in opens and a police officer comes out of it with some papers walking down the hall into another room.  Chace and Jayson follow her movements with their eyes from where each of them is waiting.  The officer disappears into another room.  The interview room door opens again drawing their attention Chace hurriedly walks down to it, Jayson meets him there.  Jackson Blaine comes out of the room followed by Emilio and an obviously upset Rylie. 

“What took so long, she just talked to Kayla on the phone.”  Jayson exclaims. 

“We all know there was more to it than that Mr. Braxton now which one of you is going to tell me the exact amount of money that was put in that locker because Ms. Adams may have been killed for it.”  Jackson is glaring at them all with his hands on his hips. 

“It was a hundred-fifty thousand and that’s not what they were after.”  Chace remarks. 

“Chace you don’t need to say anything else.”  Emilio says. 

“Are you charging Ms. Cameron with anything?”  Chace ask the detective. 

“No…..we need her to identify the body.”  Jackson glances at Rylie apologetically. 

“I can do that so she doesn’t have to.”  Chace tells him. 

“Fine….I need to ask you some additional questions, come with me?”  Jackson tells him. 

“You’re not asking him anything without his attorney present.”  Emilio speaks up. 

“Fine….let’s go.”  The detective says leading them down the hallway leaving Jayson with a shook up Rylie.  

He leads her into the interviewing room she takes the cup of coffee from him he’s holding in his hand and drinks it.  “Hey…..you alright.”  He slides his arm around her shoulders, she leans in to him laying her head on his shoulder. 

“They told me she was hit in the head with a heavy object, one of her dance trophies.  She had them in a display cabinet.  They kept asking me about them but I don’t know her that well.  I knew she was a dancer but I didn’t know she did dance competitions so I couldn’t tell them what was missing.  They found Kayla’s bl….blood on the cabinet door.  The only fingerprints found were Monique’s on the front of the office door.  They found the duffle bag Chace used for the money in a trashcan in the ladies restroom.  Jayson it had Monique’s fingerprints on it to.  They think she killed her for the money……”  Tears are rolling down Rylie’s cheeks.  “I don’t think she would hurt Kayla like that.”  Rylie is shaking her head.   

Jayson hugs her trying to comfort her.  He’s struggling himself with what Monique is being accused of.  After the discussion he had with Margo about their deal to get more money out of him he now sees Monique in a different way.  He’s still hurt by the fact that Monique was willing to go along with Margo’s scheme if only for a short time.  He can’t bring himself to tell anyone else about it, he’s too ashamed.  He also doesn’t want to believe the worst of her considering she is possibly the mother of his child.
