Jack's POV

Today's the big day. At five o'clock I'm gonna pick up Riley from her house (I'll have to walk) and bring her to my chosen destination. I didn't even go to school today so I could plan everything.

And damn am I nervous.

What if she doesn't like my idea, and then she thinks I'm just insane and leaves me? Or what if something happens, like the police sees us or something? What if she doesn't even like me and she's only here for my pity? Oh my god she doesn't even like me, what am I doing? Oh my fuck. What have I done.

Okay, just call Gilinsky.

I pick up my phone and call Gilinsky with trembling fingers, as the room feels to get smaller by the minute, enclosing me in my thoughts. I can already hear the blood thumping through my viens, my ears, everything. My heartbeat, the cars outside. Everything.

"Hey dude, what's up," his voice startles me.

"Get over here. Now. Please."

Riley's POV

I yank my locker open as I see Gilinsky run down the hallway, stopping at the principal to tell him something, then begin running again. Gilinsky looks panicked; that's the fastest he's ever ran. I hope he's okay.

I haven't seen Jack all day, but he's picking me up at five tonight. He wanted to pick me up after school, but my grandmother wasn't doing too well last night, so I said I had plans. The chemo was acting up again; she's been sick lately. I'm worried about her.

I enter the hospital, waving hi to Karen, the receptionist. I make my way to grandma's room, dodging past a nurse wheeling a person with tubes in his nose down the hall, and a group of doctors who don't look to be in hurry.

I open the big white door and the smell of medication and hope engulfs me. I look at my grandma, barely recognizing her in her pale state, almost matching the sheets that cover her so loosely. She's asleep, which is good because she needs her rest, but I wish I could talk to her.

I sit in the chair next to her bed and gently take her hand in mine. The only sounds in the room are the beeping of her steady heart monitor, and the occasional squeek of wheels from behind the door.

I stay for a half an hour, after telling her about Jack and I's date tonight, or whatever it is. She didn't wake up, but I know she heard me.

I leave the hospital, and drive to my house.

Alright, so it's 5:05pm. Lilly is here for "emotional support", but I just think she's really here to eat all my food.

"Give me that," I say as I snatch the bag of chips before she eats them all.

She huffs. "I wasn't gonna eat all of them."

"Yeah, okay."

She rolls her eyes. "So what are you guys gonna do when he picks you up?"

I shrug. "Good question. I'm not too sure, but I think Gilinsky knows something. He's been acting strange."

Her head perks up. "Gilinsky?"

"Um, yeah why?"

She shrugs. "No reason."

Then it hit me. "OH MY GOSH YOU LIKE HIM DON'T YOU!?"

She throws a pillow at me and it hits my face. "No! Shut up!"

I shake my head as my phone vibrates. "You so like him."

I got a text from Jack that said he's here. "Well I gotta go, Jack's here."

"Okay. Don't have too much fun," she winks and I throw the pillow she threw at me towards her.

I walk out the door, saying bye to my parents along the way. Jack stands on my porch step with his hands behind his back, wearing a black jacket over a gray sweat shirt. He also has a back pack and a blanket.

"Hey," he smiles, making my stomach all wonky.

"Hi," I smile back. We walk down my steps,  hands intertwined, and down the driveway.

"Use protection!"

I whip around to see Lilly waving in the window with a cheesy grin on her face. Jack laughs as me and her flip each other off.

"Sorry about. . . her," I say as I turn around.

He chuckles. "No problem. Gilinsky said the same thing."

"Oh," I lightly laugh. "So where are we going?"

"That's a surprise," he says mischievously.

I groan. "Really?"

"Yes," he mocks me and I shove his shoulder.

We walk for about ten minutes before we come across some train tracks and a wall with graffiti paintings. Graffiti's so cool.

Jack turns towards the wall and looks back at me.

"You ready to paint some cement?"
