I had silently made my way to the second floor, hoping I would find Ava's room before bumping into anyone else.
Thankfully she had already been on her way to me.
We were sat on her bed. Somewhat of a tense silence encased the room. I didn't know how to start. So I waited until she began speaking.
She placed an arm around my back and lightly squeezed my shoulder. I welcomed the comfort that her warmth provided.
Maybe I was stupid for letting her hold me when I knew she could be just like Kol. But my trust in her surpassed any of my doubts. She'd proven herself to me years ago, I couldn't forget that. I never would.
"I know you have suspicions of what we are," I tensed at the 'we'. I was right, "yes that includes me, I know Alice. I am so sorry I didn't tell you, but in all honesty you were never meant to find out."
"I figured," was all I offered as I stared at the blank light beige wall in front of us.
She continued once I looked at her, "Look, I'm sure you know enough from those movies and myths about the supernatural, but obviously not everything is true. We, and by that I mean every person in this house other than you, we're lycans." I inhaled deeply.
Lycans. I'd heard that before. Werewolves.
"Werewolves?" I asked.
"No, well kind of but no. Lycans are superior in every sense. We're faster, stronger, simply better in every way. We can turn into our wolf forms or we can remain in a half-shift state, which is normal for us, but not for werewolves."
I interrupted her with a thought that hadn't occurred to me before. "Wait a forking minute. Does that mean that there's more than just lycans? Jeez, are there vampires too? What about witches and w-"
She chuckles lightly, "How about we focus on lycans for now babe."
So there were more. That's bloody fantastic.
We talked forever and yet it felt like five minutes.
They, the lycans in this house, were like werewolves but on IOS 100.00. Most of what the tv shows portrayed about werewolves was true and applied to Lycans. They could shift and they lived in packs which was like a family and community. Alphas, Betas and Gamma's existed. As Ava explained that, it wasn't hard to place Kol on that spectrum. However, she explained that those position's were only for werewolf packs. Few lycans remained, and they were spread across the world. A small pack of Lycans resided in each country, looking over the packs of werewolves. The lycans in charge of Canada were obviously Ava, Kol, Devon, Mikael, Cyan and Penelope. It wasn't hard to understand that Kol was their leader though, he exuded authority in every way. I guess that was a given seeing as he had a huge responsibility.
Ava also touched on smaller details about them too. They could eat wild animals, raw meat, if they were in their wolf forms, but settled for human food when they were in their human state. Apparently, Lycans could shift at the age of 10 and not to mention that they could live for centuries. Yes, centuries. Their sense of smell, sight, taste, touch and even their hearing were all on steroids. Ava made sure to emphasize that their instincts were far more primal than human instincts. That made sense. She told me males were far more possessive, aggressive, dominant and females could be the same way. However, most of these traits were expressed for their mates. Then she went on to explain that term, involving some Goddess they believed in. Not much made sense and I wasn't too sure why she was explaining it all to me. I had started questioning why she would reveal so many secrets to me, she unveiled a whole new world to my eyes. But my question was answered as she explained.
