I'd been fine the first few hours. My run with Ava went by smoothly, well as smoothly as 6 sprinted miles could go for me. She was really starting to push it.
When we came back from our run, Penelope was in the kitchen, conversing with Lucy. But then her eyes fogged, and Lucy greeted us.
I'm guessing Cyan was speaking to her.
Ava had warned me about this other superpower of theirs, but I'd never actually witnessed it. It was called mindlinking and rather than questioning how in the heck it was possible, I was utterly jealous that humans couldn't talk to each other with their thoughts the second I learned about it. I only got this power if Kol marked me, or peed on me as I like to say. Oh how the world was cruel and unfair.
A minute later, we all learned that apparently half a day wasn't enough time for the guys to check up on the pack they were visiting. They needed more time to make some "tactical changes" according to Penelope.
That didn't exactly ease any of my concerns. I was beginning to wonder if I could even make it through one night without Kol.
Thankfully, I slept soundlessly. I think his scent being all over the bed helped. I was just ecstatic that I wasn't in any pain.
But by 3 o'clock the next day I could feel the throbbing in my head. It started as a headache and turned into a migraine again. So Penelope's amazing margarita's had turned into bitter tequila shots by 8pm.
I was only four shots in when I finally began to feel a little buzz and the pain had faded somewhat.
Ava and Penelope had started the fire outside as I'd gone for a change of clothes. Warm sweatpants and a blanket were enough for the cold breeze outside.
When I came down, there were four extra chairs set around the fire.
"Why five?" I asked.
"The guys will be here in a few hours." Penelope replied.
"Three to be exact." Ava chimed in.
"Thank god." I thought I'd whispered low enough but the girls laughs proved otherwise.
Penelope looked relaxed, she'd told me that human alcohol didn't do much other than help lycans relax a little. Which made sense, I guess.
I'd never seen Ava shitfaced, and she'd told me justified it with being "the opposite of a lightweight."
Speaking of, Ava was happily sipping on her non-alcoholic fruity beverage and was focused on a laptop screen. That made me realize I hadn't used my phone in what seemed like ages.
"I should call mom." I stood up, but swayed a little.
Ava chuckled as Penelope got up to help steady me, "Not right now, babe. Maybe tomorrow."
"Well then I think I need another shot." They both laughed.
"I'll get it for you." Ava passed me a shotglass full of liquid after placing the bottle on the floor next to her.
She knows me far too well to give me the bottle.
I quickly down it, and turn to Penelope as I comfortably lay on the huge chair and bring the blanket over my body. "How did you know you loved Cyan?"
I could tell the sudden questions caught her a little off guard but she didn't seem surprised that I'd asked about it.
I heard Ava shut her laptop, but I kept my curious eyes on Penelope.
