I flash my visitor's badge to the guard as I walk towards the elevator. I carry a takeout bag on my left arm- lunch for Prentiss and I. I only have four months left to get those codes. Thankfully, Ivan has left me alone since Prentiss saw him. Even more thankfully, me coming to the FBI building with food was Prentiss' idea. The rest of the team will know her and I are together now, and hopefully I'll get a chance to snoop around the BAU a little. She meets me at the door, holding it open for me. She leads me to her desk pulling up a second chair. I scan the area as she pulls out the food, noting the offices. I wonder how she'd react to me asking for a tour. It's worth a shot, I mean, what reason could she have to suspect me?
"Will there be time for a tour?"
"I'm sure we can find room," she says, smirking as Morgan walks into the room.
"Emily," I scold.
"Hey Derek!" she says regardless, waving at him before resting her hand on my knee. I wish I didn't find this so goddamn funny. I really can't be distracted right now. I watch as he makes the connection, raising his eyebrows. He walks over.
"Hey Katie," He says, "What are you doing here?"
I play along, placing my hand on top of Emily's where it sits on my knee.
"Just brought Emily some food."
"How thoughtful. Emily, can you come look over something for me?"
"Sure," she says, standing up.
They walk away, leaving me to sit awkwardly alone. I need to move around, get a feel for the place, but that will be too suspicious. I push the remnants of my food around a bit, until I see someone approach from the corner of my eye.
"Hey," Jareau says.
"Hi, JJ!" I respond.
"Emily just left you?"
"Yeah, uh, Derek pulled her aside."
She nods knowledgeably, chuckling softly.
"Well, since you're here, how about a tour of the place while you wait for her?"
Oh this could not be any more perfect.
"I would love that," I respond, standing up.
"Let's start with the main attraction," she says. "The round table room, this is where we brief all our cases, and where Morgan and Emily are currently arguing."
We both laugh, and I wave to Emily as we pass by. She shows me a couple offices, when we finally reach a room of interest to me.
"This is my office from my press liaison days, we mostly just use it for storage now."
She would want to keep the Integrity information close, and I'd bet anything it's in there. I highly doubt she'd leave the codes around, but I have to find a chance to look. As we head back to the desks, Emily and Morgan have finished their discussion.
"What did he have to say?" I ask her. JJ sits nearby at her desk, leaning in a bit to hear her.
"He's not angry at you at all for not being in to him, but he is angry with me for not saying anything to him about it."
"That's fair, I guess."
"Yeah, it's alright. We'll be fine."
"Great. So, I was thinking-" I'm interrupted by Hotchner beckoning everyone into the briefing room.
"Oh shit, a case."
"Go. I'll see you when you get back?"
"Absolutely. I'll keep you updated."
She shakes her head at me as she walks away, and I go to throw away our garbage. I walk towards the bathroom. I check to make sure everyone's busy before slipping into the storage office.
I leave the lights off, shutting the door behind me. The blinds are drawn over the windows, but I crouch regardless. I run my finger over labeled boxes, hoping for one clearly labeled "Integrity Database Codes." I don't find it. However, I do find a safe. I run through my mental image of Jareau's file, hoping to come up with a possible code. I know she and Will aren't married yet, so it can't be that. Perhaps her sons birthday. I think she said he's 7, so that would make it... 2008. I type in the code, and the door swings open. I pull out a file, and quickly snap pictures with my phone. I replace the file and lock the safe. I press my ear to the door. I don't hear anything outside. I take a deep breath, preparing myself to lie. I slip out quickly, walking quickly to the door. The team is still being briefed, and no one else is around. I'm safe. I walk out the doors of the BAU and out to my car, dropping into the seat. My fingers itch to scroll through the pictures on my phone, but I can't risk being here any longer.
