This is based on the song "We Don't Have to Dance" by Andy Black.
*3rd person POV* (4.5k+ words)
There's a very few things Brendon hates in this world. Selfishness and haughtiness topped the list, if a person it's one of those or both, he absolutely hates them, no exceptions. The other hateful thing, but at least more bearable than the last pair, is guava, awful and gross fruit.
Parties. Sure, sometimes parties are great. You have fun and you see a lot of people. Little chitchats everywhere with everyone, food, booze, and good times!
But this wasn't Brendon's opinion on parties. Actually, it was the total opposite.
He hated parties with a passion. No matter whose party he's at, not even if they were for him, or where they're celebrating, how important it is. It's a fucking party nonetheless.
They weren't at the very top of the list, but it surely was in the top 5.
Instead of coming here, he could've stayed home. Lay down on the big, and extremely comfy, bean bag besides his bed. Warm oversized clothes on, eating some snacks while the tv screen plays a random movie. So much better.
But of course his friend Spencer had to break his perfect plan. The man had taken —dragged— Brendon out with him, saying they'd go to a 'small gathering' an old friend of his was having for his birthday.
'It'll make you good! You haven't left your house in ages. C'mon, have fun for at least one night, Brendon!' He spoke those words excitedly and innocently, making the spontaneous event seem friendly.
Having not other options but attending to this, Brendon changed into some nice clothes. A simple white button-up with black dress pants. If you call this thing a gathering, then it had to be something more formal than jeans.
When they pulled up outside a big venue. Brendon was confused to say the least. He was expecting it to be a house or even a restaurant, only a few guests and that's it. Clearly this wasn't like he had pictured it to be.
This 'gathering' was as small as Beyonce's net worth —Not as big as that obviously, but you get the idea—. A better fitting name for this was a party, not 'small gathering', as it was previously called.
As soon as they greeted some of Spencer's acquaintances, he told Brendon he was going for a drink. And after that, he just disappeared through the sea of people, completely out of Brendon's sight.
Saying he wasn't expecting this to happen was a lie. He already had mentally prepared for it, Spencer separating ways and leaving Brendon by himself. All alone in an atmosphere he doesn't have much love for. But Brendon couldn't care less, except he did care.
Stupid parties, was the only thought running around Brendon's mind, over and over again.
He found himself sitting alone in a abandoned spot. An expensive looking couch pulled aside to leave more room in the middle. The bar wasn't to far away from there, and that was the only good thing that could happen to Brendon in this moment.
