TW// Arguing, assumptions of cheating

*3rd person POV (1.6k+ words)

Saying sleeping alone — even for just a night — after an 'argument', in a long term relationship was hard, is an understatement.

The two boys have been together for five years now, and they moved in Ryan's apartment after two years. A disgustingly cute, happy couple. Everyone wanted to be like them, they are so fucking in love. Meant to be, as some people say.

But as any other normal couple, they had their disagreements at times, for the minimal and dumbest reasons. And today, a stupid misunderstanding, was what led them to be like this, and if they could, they'd take back everything that was said just hours ago.

(Flashback)

"What is this?!" Brendon yelled at Ryan, holding the phone out to show the other boy an open chat with someone on the screen. "What the fuck is this, Ryan?!

At a loss of words, Ryan stayed still in the middle of the living room. He didn't want to say what it was, it'd ruin the surprise for Brendon. But at the state his boyfriend was, it doesn't matter anymore.

"Fucking answer me!" Fat tears were streaming down the younger boy's cheeks, red eyes filled with anger and disappointment. "Why are you meeting with him behind my back, huh? Couldn't you go and fuck someone else, rather than my fucking best friend at least!"

"Brendon, please, don't say that. I swear I'm not cheating on you with Dallon for gods sake!" Ryan gave a step towards him but Brendon stepped back. "Babe, you need to believe me."

"How can I believe you if I don't have an explanation?! I don't see why you could be saying 'But Brendon can't know about this', huh? C'mon, talk!" Brendon stepped backwards a little more until he hit the back of his knees with the sofa, falling on top of if. That made him sob even more, curling into a ball to his face on his knees.

"Fuck Bren, you don't make this easy, y'know-." Ryan was crying too, seeing his boyfriend broken like that made his heart shatter. There was no reason at all for this to be happening, Brendon shouldn't have read those messages in the first place.

Ryan wouldn't, in a million years, cheat on Brendon with someone else, nobody could compare to that lovely boy at all. And Brendon knew that, he knew how compromised in this relationship Ryan was, how much he cared about them, how in love he was. But the anger was bubbling in his insides and clouding his vision too much, it was almost impossible to act even a bit reasonable.

He was being stubborn, and even when his lover was trying to say it already, to blurt out whatever explanation he had, he interrupted him. "No, don't come at me with bullshit like that, you're the one who's in trouble here." Brendon grabbed a cushion from the sofa and threw it at Ryan, failing.

"No! You don't understand, you want to know the background of those texts, right?" Brendon nodded slightly. "So, let me finish, ok?" The crying boy on the sofa hesitated for a moment, before nodding his head again.

Ryan took a deep breath before saying anything, he was upset, that made his words came out just above a whisper. "I was planning on proposing to you soon, ok?" Brendon face looked up immediately, eyes wide, and sobs coming to a sudden stop. "Dallon was — is helping me out with everything. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I-I wanted it to be a surprise, that's why you couldn't know, that's all."
