Everything that's written here is merely based on how this places are shown in movies/series, so it's more than likely this isn't how they work in reality.
Same thing with the 'charges' against a person. I read something about it, but I'm not entirely sure about the veracity of the information lol.
But this is fiction, everything works :DTW// Depression, skipping meals, mention of drugs, dark thoughts, being trapped
CW// Youth detention center

Midnight it's such an interesting time of the day.
The time where the sun is long gone and none natural light is visible, artificial ones replacing it.
You see everything different when the needle inside the clock, ticks past the 12, indicating the beginning of a new cycle of 24 hours. The world gets dark, yet our minds seems to get somewhat clearer.
The city slows down, resting after a busy day of traffic —Cars rushing down the streets. People late for work yelling angrily at the other drivers, honking their car horns with the tiniest amount of hope that it will actually work. Miserable and gleeful lives colliding into the same space we call world.
That doesn't exist in this precise moment; everything goes black and you can only hear the soothing white noise.
Midnights, though, can be completely different from one another.
Whether the place you live it's very noisy or instead, quietness overflows all day; if you are located in the middle of nowhere, or in a loud and very much alive city; you live alone or with too many people.
It could be many other factors. Midnights can be just, different for everyone.
Most of the teenagers feel trapped, and that's no lie, it's a common thing to see in individuals around this age. Facing problems that seem so much bigger than the actual person, can led to many struggles.
Feeling mentally, emotionally stuck it's a thing. Now, being a teenager —who's in their maturating age and experiencing changes—, literally trapped, the whole panorama turns upside down.
And this, might be Brendon's situation right now.
Some people aren't living as a free bird, flying around in the world anytime they want. They are deprived from this one little, needful thingy for every human being.
Living with many, many restrictions and following orders as your everyday. Sleeping in a flat mattress, inside a tiny room of four walls, nothing but you and lonely silence. Deciding between eating the crap they serve as food, or starve yourself until next time. A life like this one can get really sad, frustrating, depressing.
Passing your days in a youth detention center, a juvie, probably doesn't sound like the funniest thing to do, right?
So, night time for Brendon, may or may not be, slightly different.
After the guards call everyone for sleep time, Brendon does as told. Automatically walks to his usual "room", being the one in the far corner, isolated from the other boys sharing this lousy place with him.
And instead of sleeping right away, like everyone around him does —not having anything else to do besides laying down and closing their eyes—, Brendon stays awake for another handful of hours.
