I woke up alone as expected, but it didn't make the realization softer by any means. After years of sleeping in the presence of others, it was difficult to fall asleep alone and even harder to wake up with no one beside you.

'You actually have to fall asleep if you wanna wake up.'

Today was a special day. Not for me, but a special day nonetheless. It wasn't anyone's birthday and even if it was, the other Warriors and myself didn't really enjoy counting the moments right before one's death.

Today was the day Porco would inherit the Jaw titan. Today was the day Ymir would die.

'Big day, huh?'

Perhaps this was the reason I found myself wandering the cold and dusty halls which lead towards a certain brunette's room. Was I looking for company? Familiarity? A blunt voice which came from another person and not my own head?

'I'm hurt! Don't you enjoy my company?'

A cold feeling enveloped my body as I progressed further down the hall. In the warm light of day the hall seemed to be so much livelier and welcoming. Now, in the pale moonlight, it seemed to expand beyond sight; as though it were endless.

The hall was quiet, accompanied only by the sound of my feet hitting the floor and the thoughts inside of my head. One of my hands dragged across the wall while the other tightly grasped my locket. The cool material of the wall scratched lightly at my fingertips as I moved further along.

'What are you hoping for, (Y/n)? Do you really think she wants to talk to you right now? That she wants you to be the one to hear her final thoughts and words?'

My grip tightened around the cool metal of my locket.

'She would only be wasting her breath. She'd probably be better off talking to herself than to someone as unstable as you.'

A sharp pain caused me to pull my hand away from the wall. A drop of blood escaped the newly formed gash on my hand before being enveloped in a puff of steam.

'Creepy... do you even feel anything?'

Stop...

'Probably not... you don't even look people in the eye anymore.'

Stop.

'And the way you've been acting towards Porco... I mean... Cadet Galliard...'

Stop!

'...how cold.'

"STOP!"

It was only when I heard my voice bounce off the walls that I snapped back into reality. It was only when I heard footsteps walking towards the door that I realised I was standing in front of a certain brunette's room. It was only when the door opened that I realised I had nothing to say.
