It's dark.

It feels like my entire body is burning, but it's not the kind of burning you feel when you're surrounded by flames. Rather, it's the kind of burn you feel when you've been sitting in cold water for too long.

My limbs screamed for release. To be released from the cold of the liquid that surrounded my body and to become warmer! And despite my regularly hot body temperature, it was just something I couldn't achieve.

A slight metallic tang drifted through the air. The urge to gag continually built in my throat yet I somehow managed to keep my composure.

It wasn't an immediate thing, but I realised that figures were laying at my feet; and there were a lot of them.

A countless amount of bodies starting from underneath me reached farther than my eyes could see! They stared up towards the sky like lifeless dolls, eyes wide and devoid of emotion. I held back the urge to scream but terror was definitely building up within me.

The terror was especially difficult to contain when I noticed a pair of grey eyes beneath me.

"You left me all alone when you promised you'd never leave me..."

I shook my head, denying the familiar voice which rang in my ears.

"It wasn't my choice!" I exclaimed, forcing out every single word as though it might be my last, "I didn't want to leave you behind. I didn't want to leave you at all!"

"Even so, you're not the one who's dead now, are you?"

I did my best to move away from the girl's body only to fall over onto another.

Stale brown eyes and pale freckles were the features that jumped out at me the most. They were features I used to love, but right now the only feeling I felt was dread.

"Did you really believe, even for a second, that you could truly love someone? You should know better than anyone what happens when you love someone. I know your predecessors would agree with me!"

I didn't want to believe it. I told myself that it wasn't true, but then why did it feel like everything they said was right? Why did it feel like everything I told myself was wrong?

I caught a glimpse of silver eyes and for the fraction of a moment, my heart stopped.

"I didn't mean to!" I exclaimed, "I cared for you; I cared for all of you so much!"

"And that's exactly the reason why we're where we are."

Dark amber eyes peered at me from the darkness. There was only one person I knew who had eyes of that colour, but they were someone I knew I'd never see again. Not in the way I'd want to, anyway.

"I hope you're happy with your decisions."

They walked towards me slowly, the glint of a blade flashing in my eyes from time to time; a blade I knew all too well.

The moment I tried to stand, hands reached up and held me down. All at once my heartbeat became clear in my ears, the harshness of my breath became apparent and the lifeless eyes that had once stared up into the sky now looked at me.

The terror that had been building, the urge to gag I had been holding back and the need to scream exploded inside of me, yet I couldn't make a single sound.

Hope ignited inside of me for a moment as I made out the silhouettes of several people.

"Jean... Armin, Eren! Please, help me!" I called, "Mikasa! Connie, Sasha! Please!"
