"Sorry if I caused you any trouble," I smiled, closing the door to the infirmary as I met the tall male outside. He seemed a little lost in thought but regained his composure as soon as the door clicked behind me.
"Not at all," he assured me, "it was my pleasure."
I walked over to the male, searching for a name somewhere in my mind but coming up empty handed. It was strange. I was fairly certain I knew his name but I couldn't quite recall what it was. It seemed to be just barely out of my reach.
"What's your-"
"Have I-"
The two of us started and stopped at the same time. I laughed at the way his face flared with colour at the interaction.
"Sorry, I don't mean to laugh at you," I smiled, "but this situation just seems... familiar. I've introduced and been introduced to so many people in the past 24 hours it almost seems like I've met every person I need to know!"
The raven haired male chucked quietly before saying, "yeah. I guess that's just how it is when you join something new."
"I hate to burden you with having to learn another name," I joked, "but mine's (Y/n) (L/n)."
The male smiled, a genuine smile, as he finally met my gaze, "Bertholdt Hoover."
Green eyes.
Like a forest in the early hours of dawn; eyes filled with comfort yet brimming with mystery.
We walked alongside each other in relative silence after that.
I wasn't someone who'd go out of their way to make conversation, nor was I a person who desired silence all of the time. Though it seemed that I was finding silence more and more comfortable. I didn't feel the need to talk or make noise; we just... walked.
It was simple.
Straightforward.
Easy.
It was only when a muscular blonde appeared that the comfortable silence disappeared and tension began to rise.
"Bertholdt! I was wondering where you..." the blonde's words slowed to a halt as his eyes met mine, "...went."
"Hey..." I dragged out the end of the word, stalling for time as I searched my memory for the blonde's name, "...Reiner, right?"
"What... were the two of you doing?" the male inquired.
I guess it was a little strange to see two random people walking together... alone... from a generally secluded area... with no one else around.
"Just came back from the infirmary!" I blurted, heat rising to my face when I heard my voice echo into the distance. A hint of amusement raced across the blonde's features but I guess I was too flustered to think of anything else to say.
"You... you're one of the ones that flipped?" the muscular blond asked. He smiled in a way that told me he was holding in a laugh.
"In my defence it was the rope that snapped..." I winced at the mention of my... less than desirable performance. Though, I strangely found myself perking up at the boy's seemingly specific words.
"Hold on... one of the ones that flipped?" I echoed.
Reiner nodded, "there were a few others that tipped during the test... but the most amusing was probably that brunette who was making a big deal about killing Titans last night."
"Eren?" I gasped. His name kind of just slipped out.
"Yeah," Reiner smiled, "him." There was a slight twitch in the blonde's expression. I didn't notice it until it was already gone.
