It's dark.

I can't feel anything; not even the beat of my own heart. Sometimes I wonder if I'm dead, but the voices and sounds around me keep me from reaching that edge.

Once in a while I'll hear footsteps pass by. Rarely will voices echo in the darkness. Rarer still will someone actually talk to me. Oftentimes they're threats, but once in a while it'll be the voice of someone I know.

They talk to me; telling me about their day and what goes on in the world. I cling to their words the same way I cling to distant memories. It's the only way I know I'm still alive.

Footsteps approach. I'd hold my breath if I was still breathing.

"Annie... I'm sorry it took me so long to find you," they speak, their voice just barely that of a whisper, "I don't know if you're still alive, but I intend to take you home."

(Y/n)!

As much as I've enjoyed listening to Hitch ramble about random nonsense, I didn't. I appreciated her constant visits of course, but that being said, I was glad that (Y/n) was finally back.

'I'm alive!' I attempted to call, but I knew she couldn't hear me.

"You wouldn't believe how many sheets of Commander Hange's writing I had to read to find where you-" (Y/n)'s voice trails away as the door, somewhere in front of me I'd assume, opens.

"What are you doing in here?" A voice asks. It's Hitch.

"Here on authorization from Commander Hange," is (Y/n)'s response. I could only imagine the way her hands snapped into position on her chest.

Hitch groaned, "didn't that crazy commander get enough samples of the weird 'hardening' already?"

"They told me to retrieve another small sample," (Y/n) lied. It was natural enough that even I might not have realized it was a lie in the first place, "to see whether or not it'll begin eroding over time."

Hitch nodded, humming as her footsteps neared me.

"I don't suppose you know whether or not she's alive in there, do you?"

"I'm... not given that sort of information, ma'am." (Y/n) replied, "and even if I did, I'm not so sure I'd be allowed to divulge that information to anyone outside of who the Commander has deemed necessary."

Their words halt for longer than what I would consider comfortable. The only thing which told me that both (Y/n) and Hitch were still in the room was their slightly synchronized breathing.

"Where are my manners?" Hitch suddenly pipes, "Hitch Dreyse from the Military branch."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Hitch." (Y/n) replies, "though I suppose I should be taking my leave right about now. I... had a promise to fulfill, but I guess it'll have to wait."

(Y/n)'s footsteps rapidly approach the door but stop as Hitch calls out to her, "what did you say your name was, again?"

"I didn't."

(Y/n) P.O.V.

The floorboards have stopped shaking. Has Bertholdt finally transformed? I wasted no time in leaving my hiding spot and climbing to the top of the city.

Towards the center of the city was Bertholdt's Colossal Titan. To the right of that was Reiner's Titan lying face up towards the sky. To the left of me was Eren's Titan; several familiar silhouettes pressed up against his shoulder.
