I'll be honest; I've never enjoyed doing mundane tasks. There was just something about them that always made me want to lay down and die.

I'll admit that while most of the 'mundane' tasks that come to mind are chores, the fact that those things were 'chores' wasn't the issue. The prospect of doing the same thing for an extended period of time just wasn't something appealing in my opinion.

I suppose that's why this assignment in particular had been a thorn in my side since it was announced.

And now we were riding horses in the middle of a hot and dry afternoon.

It felt like sand and mountains were the only things visible for miles! Sure, I knew that we'd eventually make it to the forest where I could at least count the amount of trees we passed, but I wasn't exactly excited for that either.

I sighed for what felt like the millionth time this hour.

A laugh from beside me had me turning towards a certain (h/c)ette.

"What's so funny?" I huffed.

"I don't know... maybe the fact that you've sighed about a million times since reaching the barren lands? We're barely a quarter of the way through the assignment and you're already acting like you're going to die!"

(Y/n) always laughs at me and tells me that I'm being dramatic. To be fair, she was being dramatic, too.

"I have not sighed a million times!" I protested, though I guess I wasn't really one to talk, "besides... not everyone can enjoy such mindless and boring things like you do! Honestly, how do you do it?"

(Y/n) laughed again, "I don't think there's anything wrong with doing nothing. Don't you think it's nice to have a break from all the studying and training for a little while?"

"So all you're doing is looking on the bright side?" I asked skeptically.

"Mina," (Y/n) smiled, "do you really take me, someone who's known you for over three years, for someone who would tell you to look on the bright side?"

I rolled my eyes as (Y/n) stuck her tongue out at me.

"What are you doing?!" someone shouted further up the path. From the sound of his voice, I could tell it was Jean.

I didn't particularly know what was going on but I assumed it had something to do with Eren. The two of them were always butting heads. It seemed that as long as they stayed within a 10 kilometer radius of each other they would find something to argue about.

And now they were forced to interact with each other on this long and boring assignment.

One might think that the two of them would eventually run out of things to argue about, but they didn't. In fact, all of their arguments always seemed to lead to the same thing at the end of the day.

Eren was going to join the Scouts.

Jean was going to join the Military.

Blah blah blah... yap yap yap. Whatever.

Honestly, I started tuning out their arguments ten minutes into the assignment. I think I would lose my mind faster listening to those boys argue than being forced to do absolutely nothing; and doing absolutely nothing already did that pretty quickly on its own.

"This isn't a game!" Eren retorted.

"We don't even have an instructor! This training won't get us anywhere!"

"Guys, stop it!" Marco said, trying to get the two to stop arguing, "all you're doing is wasting time and acting like brats!"

Jean scoffed, "I don't want to hear that from you."
