"The objective of this exercise is to evaluate everyone's ability to sustain themselves in the absence of a crisis. You will all follow a set route and steadily make your way back to town. That's all. Straightforward and simple. It could be thought this training is one that even you cowards could easily pass, but it's not! In any situation, do not forget your will to fight! Emergency or not, a soldier is always a soldier. Don't succumb to peaceful boredom! Never stop exercising your hands or feet! This training is also a battle! Do not forget that!"
"Yes Sir!"
"During this expedition, you Cadets will be split into two different groups. There are multiple charts on the wall that states groups and where their expedition will be. You will all leave in the morning so get a good night's rest. Dismissed."
Though I wasn't particularly excited for this next assignment, I couldn't deny that I wasn't going to mind taking a few days to do nothing but mindless tasks. A change of pace, I guess.
I mean, compared to the last few days (which were mostly filled with tests, assignments and the oh so dreaded maneuver assessment), this assignment was actually very straightforward and simple. How could I refuse something like that?
I began moving towards the edge of the field as a generally large group of Cadets moved away from one of the several group listing boards.
Groups were split into two teams; Team A and Team B. Though the two groups traveled the same route, they traveled them in reverse. Essentially, they would meet up with one another halfway through the expedition and meet up again at the end.
It took me a little while to find my group listing, but it wasn't nearly as long as one might've expected.
The first team, Team A, consisted of Bertholdt Hoover, Hannah Diamant, Nac Tias, Annie Leonhart, Reiner Bruan and Franz Kefka with Mikasa Ackerman as record keeper and Thomas Wagner as leader.
The second team, Team B, had Marco Bodt as leader and Armin Arlert as record keeper, the members of the group being Eren Jaeger, Sasha Blouse, Connie Springer, Jean Kirstein, Christa Lenz, Mina Carolina and (Y/n) (L/n).
That would be me.
I had to admit, this was going to be one hell of a group.
"(Y/n)!" someone called, though I could already tell who it was by the sound of their voice.
"Hey Connie," I smiled, "do you need something?"
Connie shook his head, "no, but aren't you excited? We're the same group!"
"I mean, if you really think about it, this is nothing more than another training mission..." I trailed, noticing how the boy's expression dropped ever so slightly, "... but I guess you could say that I'm pretty excited."
I wanted to laugh at how quickly Connie's mood had shifted from excited to distraught and then back to excited, but I didn't.
"That's the spirit!" Connie cheered.
"What about spirit?" Sasha asked as she approached from behind the egar male.
"Connie is just very excited for the assignment tomorrow," I chuckled in amusement, "I guess you could say that he can barely contain it."
Sasha tilted her head curiously, "really? Last time I had checked, Connie was not very excited. I am fairly certain that up until now he was dreading the assignment! A week, if I recall correctly. He must be excited because you are in our group!"
Connie's face flushed red, but I didn't quite catch it.
"I don't blame him." I laughed, "I'm pretty happy to have the two of you in my group, too!"
