I was five when I first met (Y/n) (L/n).
Being nothing but a shy boy who could barely do anything himself, meeting someone like (Y/n) was like the ocean coming in contact with the sky. So unbelievable. I didn't think someone like her could exist.
I was thirteen when I had my first conversation with her. My first real conversation with her.
It was here that I realised she wasn't just a person to admire. She was just human too. Talking to her was much easier after that. While I didn't know it at the time, she would become someone I could really confide in.
I was sixteen when I realised I was in love with her.
Cadet training was harsh, but not as harsh as Warrior training. We didn't need to run like our lives depended on it, though it most likely would.
Today, luckly, happened to be a special day. There wouldn't be training. With Commander Shadis's assmessments due, as well as a big test tomorrow, the decision was made to allow the cadets some time off.
While it was highly advised for the cadets to spend the day studying, it was unlikely that anyone would actually go through with it.
Everyone except her.
I had just happened to wake up early when I spotted her. She sat in the cafeteria, an empty bowl of soup beside her and her nose buried in a book.
I moved before I could realise what I was doing. Despite taking a seat beside her, she didn't seem to notice me.
I watched as (Y/n) nibbled on the edge of her pencil, pushing a stand of hair behind her ear. I wonder how much she remembers about being a Warrior? I wonder how much she remembers about me?
"Reiner!" (Y/n) exclaimed, "how long have you been here?"
I smirked, "just a few hours. I was beginning to think I was invisible."
"Wait... you weren't actually here for hours right?" (Y/n) blushed, "sorry, I was distracted."
I shrugged, "it's no problem. What are you even doing up this early?"
"Studying. The real question is, what are you doing up this early? I took you for someone that enjoys getting beauty sleep."
"I'm hurt! I'll have you know I'm always diligent."
(Y/n) rolled her eyes, "I need to get back to studying. If you're only going to distract me you are free to leave."
"Nerd!" I teased.
(Y/n) looked taken aback. A strange look crossed her face. Her eyes were clouded and I wondered if she just remembered something. She shook her head moments after, a playful smile on her lips.
"I like to think of it as getting a head start."
"And how does that make you any less of a nerd?" I asked. (Y/n) opened her mouth to say something but I spoke before she could say anything, "why don't you spend the day with me? I was planning on heading into town with Bertholdt today but he was really tired this morning. Would you want to go with me instead?"
(Y/n) tilted her head to the side, "are you asking me out on a date, Mr. Brawn?"
"Only if you want it to be." I winked.
"I do need to head into town to get Mina something for her birthday," (Y/n) mumbled, before turning to look at me, "alright. I'll head to town with you. It's not a date though."
