Morning arrived sooner than I would've preferred. As much as I wanted to close my eyes and go back to sleep, a nagging in the back of my mind urged me to stay awake. Though my body protested, a part of my mind protesting even more, I pushed aside my bedsheets.

A slight stir from behind me caused me to glance over my shoulder. The calm breathing of the blonde female behind me told me that she was still asleep.

I reached out towards her for a moment but pulled back as she moved to sit up.

The girl's gaze, Annie if I recalled correctly, shifted towards the drawer on the outside of the bed. I shifted to make room on the edge of our conjoint bed and Annie quickly shifted beside me.

The stoic blonde didn't say anything to me. She simply rummaged through the small drawer (on her right) until she had successfully located her uniform. I didn't even realise I had been staring until she peeked at me from the corner of her eye.

I turned away sheepishly, diving into the drawer of my own and retrieving my uniform.

Cool air grasped and clawed at me like a puppy which desired attention. The cool fabric of my uniform didn't provide much protection from the cold.

Just as I began to slide into the (overcomplicated) straps, the door to the cabin flew open.

"Rise and shine, sleeping beauties!" announced a woman who I didn't quite recognize. The band on her arm told me that she worked in the infirmary, but there wasn't much about her which particularly stood out to me, "you lot have a total of 15 minutes to get up and get out onto the field or else the Commander is going to make you run laps."

Several groans were elicited from the others in the cabin as the woman turned around and left.

As others began to groggily pull themselves out of bed, Annie was making her way out of the cabin.

I chased after her before I even realised what I was doing. By the time I realised it, I was holding her sleeve just in front of the door. She looked at me with boredom in her gaze, but something just beneath the surface told me more than I could comprehend.

"Annie..." I murmured, still trying to think of something to say. What even was there to say? Had I just haphazardly grabbed her arm, or... was there something else?

Annie quirked a brow but didn't pull away.

We just... stared at each other.

Blue eyes.

The colour of a certain flower which I couldn't quite recall.

Was she saying something to me? Was I saying something to her?

"Sorry..." I mumbled, averting my gaze from the stoic blonde, "I... just wanted to thank you again. For returning my necklace yesterday."

The girl nodded and left before I could say anything more.

My stomach turned as I watched her leave. I felt like there was more I wanted to say but I couldn't quite find the words to explain it.

Perhaps it was due to the inexplicable feeling of familiarity that I wanted to talk to her, or perhaps it was because she looked at me like she knew me better than I knew myself. Did she know me better than I knew myself? Is it possible that she...

I swallowed the lump that had formed in my throat.

I pushed the thought away and turned back towards the room. Catching the eye of my raven haired sibling, I sent her a small smile.

I guess it was about time that I left to go to the field. I wasn't particularly keen on running laps on the first day.
