I was awoken by the cold. It was like a slap in the face. One moment I was asleep and the next I was feeling the after effects of a transformation. The familiar faces of Reiner and Bertholdt were the first things I saw. I would've been calm if not for the sudden panic that ensued after.
"Wh... what's... going on?" I asked, "my arms...!"
"Eren. Look, I'm in the same situation as you." Ymir called out, "Guess today's a rough one for the both of us."
"Ymir... why... don't I have arms?"
"Oh sorry," was Reiner's reply, "I did that. I was in a hurry. I bit your neck while I was panicking... and I missed both of your arms in the process."
"I see... so I lost..."
A moment of silence passed and the tension between the small group rose. When I could no longer handle the rising tension, I brought my regenerating hand up to my mouth. I was going to get out of here as soon as I could!
"Eren!" Bertholdt shouted, "Stop!"
Ymir's hand pulled my own away from me. "Just wait a second, Eren. Take a good look around you." My gaze shifted away from Ymir.
"This is the Titan Forest inside Wall Maria. It's apparently pretty far away from the wall. Naturally it's part of Titan territory. Just look;" Ymir explained and I did as she said. "I guess you'd call those abnormals. It might look like they're just relaxing but they've got their eyes locked onto us. Even the small ones below pose a threat, not to mention the big one over there, too. It's just watching us and not coming close. It's probably not very strong."
A wave of dread washed over me at the sight of all the Titans. Just as Ymir had said, there were over a dozen Titans below. Though for some, the sight of titans caused one to feel queasy, the only feeling I felt in particular was frustration.
"And then..." Ymir continued, "there's them. Those three stingy bastards."
I looked up, confused. Reiner and Bertholdt were the only two I could see... so what did she mean by three?
Quickly solving my confusion was a familiar silhouette landing between Reiner and Bertholdt. The branch shook as she landed, her back turned away from Ymir and myself. No matter how much I wished or pretended, I knew it could only be her.
I could've told myself seeing (Y/n) here only brought more confusion but a part of me already knew. Sure, I wasn't as smart as Armin, but I just knew.
(Y/n) had chosen to side with the enemy.
"They're the only ones wearing ODM equipment. Reiner's wearing yours," Ymir continued, "recklessly turning into a Titan here and now doesn't strike me as a good idea. Not only can they do the same, they can also escape high into the trees; and even if they couldn't, we're surrounded by Titans. Even with 'Titan powers,' it's hard to make it out of Titan territory like this alive. You understand don't you? We don't have the luxury of being able to run wild here."
"No, right now, neither of you could even become Titans to begin with." Reiner interrupted, "it's not quite as convenient as you think. Your strength is limited. At the moment, all you can do is repair your bodies."
"Dumbass! Who the hell would believe what you have to say?"
Reiner's frown deepened.
"Well... I don't know that much about our powers. Unlike you two, I don't know how those kinds of things work," Ymir confessed, "you said you'd talk once Eren woke up, right? How about you finally tell us; what do you three plan on doing with us from here?"
