Hurrying home saved Adeline 10 minutes extra to get ready. Arriving at the top story of her shared little flat in Brixton. Out of breath, she unlocked the door, dropped off all her stuff and greeted her flatmate Nora, who looked more than exhausted.
"Rough day, love?" Adeline asked her, as she stood leaning against the doorframe to her room, still in her PJs and a mug of what she assumed was cold coffee.
"Could say so, yes. Looking for a job should be the job itself." Nora sighed.
Her dearest friend noticed how she indeed looked worn out with her beautiful black hair in a messy bun and dark bags under her dark brown eyes which were the giveaway for her Indian roots. It had been a while since she was searching for a job as a makeup artist and seemingly no one in London seems to need her. She knew it tore a lot on her. Nora was actually worried she couldn't pay rent this month or groceries at it is.
"Oh, don't give up, you'll find something soon, just hang on." Adeline tried to reassure her.
"Well yeah anyway, why are you in such a hurry?"
"It's that big work gala tonight. Remember, I've told you I might have to borrow a dress of yours."
"Oh yeah do do, of course well let's see what we can find!"
They entered her room that was just on the other side of the hall and much more colorful than Adeline's. With the mustard yellow on each wall and all of the flowers painted on it.
Another dead giveaway that it was her place, as was the big make up section and huge closet she set up, which harbored few of the most beautiful dresses. Nora picked out a long black dress that hung on the far left side.
"Ok so we have this hot black one with a very nice plunging neckline..." Adeline only gave a disapproving look that said everything.
"Ok, that's a no it seems, what about this one, it's somewhat formal but still kinda sexy and the green really compliments your Weasly hair." She joked and showed her friend the knee long emerald dress that sparkled a bit here and there, the satin fabric shining in the light. It had tight spaghetti straps and the neckline was falling elegantly but not revealing much. The back though, told a whole different story.
"Oh fuck off! Anyway, it's gorgeous, can I try it on?"
Adeline was hopping into the the emerald cocktail dress, slipping her body in the satin fabric.
"You could tag along, you know be my date." She proposed as she slipped it over her upper body carefully.
"What!? No I'm neither invited or an employee I wouldn't dare to."
Nora replied as she sipped her friend up."Ugh look it you it suits your hair so well!" She complimented her as they both looked forward into her long mirror with a thousand notes around it.
"Oh I'm sure it's not a problem, you could go out again have some fun, eat and drink on the company's cost..."
"Look that does sound nice, but I really don't want to interfere. Come on, sit down let me do your makeup, I'm getting out of practice here."
"You wouldn't, you know we could profit from Jim's promotion too, besides you two are closer than we are anyway." She tried to speak as naturally as possible while Nora put the probably most luxurious foundation on her face, crouching beneath her.
"I mean, I'm gonna be real here I really could use some fun but can we at least give him a call first?"
"Yea sure!" Adeline tried to find his contact, not seeing much with her friend blocking her view a bit. As she found it and he replied, they both said in unison:
"Hey, Jimmy!"
"Hey ladies, with what do I owe the pleasure?" he replied from the other line.
"Look Jim, can Nora be my date for tonight? I know it's a bit spontaneous but..."
"Yea, sure the more the merrier, I'm happy if you come, Nora!"
"Thank you so much! See you, bye!"
"Bye, love!""Great then I'll do your make up real quick and then get ready myself. Do we still have time for me to hop into the shower?
"Absolutely not!" Adeline warned. She knew she was going to be too late but with her "quick showers"?
"Okay great, I wont be long, I promise!"
"Ugh, fine! By the way, he's so into you, you know that right?"
"What Jim? I doubt it actually. Anyways you're all set up! I still have it!"
"You do! Thank you so much, now go!"
Nora gave her a simple yet glamorous make up look, and that in less than 15 minutes, god bless her soul, she thought.
As she tried to charge her phone for at least 10 minutes, so it would live through the night she scrolled through her Instagram and suddenly stopped dead in her tracks when she stumbled over an oh so picture perfect photo of a familiar face.A/N:
