Once May arrived and it got undoubtedly warmer each day Adam and Adeline grew closer than ever before. Even closer than they used to be when they were in a relationship. But these days they weren't —and at the same time it didn't feel like they grew closer as nothing but friends either.
Her weekends were his. Every Friday night he'd pick her up from her last lesson at uni and then they'd order food and eat on his couch while watching a movie. This is how their life has been the last two weeks. Adeline knew all about his favorite movies and actors now, about the never told shenanigans between actors or random behind the scenes facts. Up to now they have only watched one movie with him starring in it. Adam said it was too weird for him, he only ever sees what he could've done better. Adeline didn't really see where this could've been possible.
"Hollywood is a fucked up place..." He told her after having taken a swig from his beer bottle. "...it's not as shiny as you might think, definitely not the world I want to live in when I don't have to..."
"Is that the reason for your break?" "Well...somewhat. It's like...I've been first cast when I was 18 and like I'm grateful that people like what I'm doing and everything but I've been pushed around ever since. I feel like I want to explore a bit, take a breath or two."
"Hmm, so what is something you want to do?" She asked.
"I don't really know, I've already found out that I can't really handle boredom..." he laughed thinking about the time he called her drunk before lunch time. "....so I thought...well I have a few things I want to do but they are pathetic for different reasons each." Adeline just looked at him dumbfounded at that, why was he beating around the bush like that?
"Don't look at me like that, love you wouldn't understand!" "Try me!"
"Well there is one thing we already do from my list and that is grocery shopping?"
"Wait what?" She asked in disbelief.
"I told you, you wouldn't understand." Adam said glancing at her with an ashamed smile.
"No, no go on tell me. What have I missed out on the past few years while buying food?"
"Like I've always had people doing it for me? And it's a part of domestic life I've missed. I was also worried too many people would recognize me and it would end up being a big hassle.""It's a rich man's world!" She joked. "But like no one has ever approached you while I was with you. I mean you act a bit paranoid but beside from that..." He looked left and right twice in every aisle and he knew that.
"I guess it's because I'm not exactly the talk of the town at the moment and I try to keep my head low." He said smiling.
"Right...So what else do you want to do?" "Remember when you showed me your work the other day?" He asked.
She certainly did. While Adam was preparing dinner Adeline tried to finish an essay for her rhetorical writing class at his kitchen counter. Adeline pretty much explained every step to cooking a nice rice pan to him while doing so. And while everything cooked up nicely he glanced over her shoulder and ended up asking her a million questions, resting his head on her neck, inhaling her scent. By now he knew that she studied rhetorical writing to someday work in politics because her granddad did so. It was lovely for him see her eyes light up as she talked about things she was excited about and invested in.
"Well I told you I originally wanted to study English... and it was pretty serious like I already had the essay done and everything and then I got the call for my first film. So I kinda thought of trying to write a script?"
"That sounds like so cool! What keeps you from doing it?"
"I don't like things I'm not good at." He said bluntly and Adeline laughed out loud. "Oh does that hurt your ego? Adam there is absolutely no one whose first try at writing is perfect! It has got to be shit before it gets better."
"Guess I'll try again, I don't know." Adam said not too convinced. "You should, I'll advice you! Like with the cooking!"
"Hope it'll be better than my cooking though!" "Yes, me too!" Adeline laughed and if he wouldn't be so infatuated with her he'd be offended. Yes, the rice burned but the vegetables were still edible for gods sake."Are you free tomorrow? There is another thing I want to try!"
"I'm not actually, sorry but I'm still curious...what is it?"
"Pottery." "Pottery?"She asked looking at him in disbelief once again. "I'm serious! I've seen such cool videos, could do like a plate or something"
"You really are bored under the week are you?" She asked him and it was kind of true. He couldn't really do without her ,even if he wouldn't tell her that just now. Every fun thing that comes up in his mind he wants to do with her.
"Ok well, another time then!" A comfortable silence filled the room besides from the commercials playing from the tv and Adeline brushed the crumbs from the pretzels she snacked on off her top. It was dark red and a bit revealing but Adeline felt cute in it. For Adam the warmer temperatures in London made it harder to hide his attraction for her. He wondered if she felt the same.
"What are you doing tomorrow?" Not knowing bothered him too much.
"Nora asked if we would do something since we don't see each other much these days." She answered.
"Nora is your flatmate!" He laughed. "And my best friend! Hey I miss her! We haven't really seen each other in two whole weeks. Don't your mates miss you?""They are bugging me a lot to be honest!" He said. "So what? Go out with them!" Adeline tried to encourage him, she knew she took up a lot of his time it'd be healthy for him to see another face.
"No, I mean I could ask Jim and George but not the old bunch with Blake and such."
"I'm just going to pretend I know Blake and the bunch. But what is wrong with them?""They usually get pissed drunk at a high end bar and try to take a random girl home."
Adam said and Adeline couldn't help but feel hopeful that he didn't like the idea of that. "So?"
"I have had enough of running with the wolves. Done that for almost ten years now, it's not really my thing anymore." Adeline stared at his profile for a second too long in admiration before catching herself and turning her head.A/N: don't trust ppl called Blake. pic: https://www.londonperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/london-perfect-may-events.jpg
