"She's going to hate it."
"No she's not. She'll love it."
"No she won't. She's going to redo it."
Emily was stressed. Her mother was coming to Quantico for work. She didn't know of Emily and JJ's relationship or even that Emily was a lesbian.
Elizabeth Prentiss would arrive in an hour. She forbid Emily from picking her up, she could order a car.
Emily's POV
My hand got slapped when I tried to pick at my nails. JJ said I needed to breathe. Soon a knock at the door got me standing."Hello mother." I said as I opened the door. I held out a hand but she pulled me into a hug. "Oh Emily, it has been too long."
That was weird she treated me like a friend, not a burden like normal. As a kid I was always told to shake hands and be respectful, even to my mother. I led her to the living room.
"Mother, this is JJ. She's my fiancé." I said hoping that would get it over with. I realize now that I should have told JJ my plan, her mouth was hanging open.
"She's your what?"
"My fiancé mom." I said. I didn't think I would be feeling this scared. She never seemed to have a problem with anyone being gay. But we never talked, I had no way to be sure.
"I have to leave." She said. Before she could I blocked the door. "Please stay." She tried to get me away but I continued. "Stop, you're my mother. You have to say something." My voice started cracking.
"Emily move." She said still making me move. "Stop. Please. Mommy no." I said. I never called her mommy unless it was important. The last time I called her mommy was in Belgium with the pregnancy.
"Emily what am I supposed to say?" She asked. It killed me. "You are supposed to say you love me because I am your daughter. Because I'm happy." I replied and she eased off the door.
"Are you really happy?"
"More than anything." I said hoping she would stay. She nodded. "Okay. If you are happy than I can be okay with that." I let out a high sigh. "Thank you." I said as I pulled her into a hug. I met JJ's eyes. They were calm and reassuring.
"Jennifer, would you like to accompany me to lunch? I would like to get to know my future daughter." My mother asked. JJ smiled awkwardly. "I would love to Ambassador Prentiss. And you can call me JJ."
"No thank you, but how about we go get some salads at a local bistro." I held on a chuckle.
"I know just the one. Emily I will see you later." JJ said before my mother led her out the door.
Good luck Jay.
JJ's POV
I drove Elizabeth to the bistro. She was given a table in the back, I didn't know how fancy this place could be."So Jennifer. What all do you know about Emily?" She asked. Time to put my FBI skills to work.
"I know a lot. I met her when she joined the BAU. She is one of the best profilers I have ever known. She's caring and sweet. She loves rain. In the morning she always makes three cups of coffee, one for me and two for her. I think she has a caffeine addiction but she denies it. She's the prettiest person I have ever laid eyes on, even if she always complains about her nose. I love her nose." I realized I was rambling. "Sorry."
She tipped her head up. "Don't be. I can tell you like my daughter."
"Of course. I love her. She's been there for me through horrible dark times, she's my world."
"Good. I want you to have something." She said taking off the necklace she was wearing. On it hung a silver ring that made a V shape. It had small diamonds covering it. "This is what her father gave me for our last anniversary."
"When Emily was about four, her father died. I've worn this around my neck for years. I remember one time my business trip ended early so I went to say goodnight to her before she fell asleep. She looked at it and said how she wanted one just like it for when she grew up." I saw the tears in her eyes and grabbed her hand.
"Give it to her. She meant everything to her father. And she loved him even if she doesn't remember him."
I was in shock. "Ambassador I have no words. You have no idea how much this means to me." I said.
"Just take those moments. And you can call me Elizabeth." She said. I walked around the table and hugged her. I think I took her by surprise but I don't care. She accepted us and even if she wasn't my mother, it still meant the world to me.
After a long conversation we finally finished and went home. Emily opened the door with a small look of fear. I smiled and walked in. Her mother eventually left for her hotel and we were alone.
"How did it go? Did she scare you? Does she hate it all?" She went on. I grabbed her hands.
"She doesn't hate us, and she loves you very much." I said. She calmed down and we put on a movie. Soon we fell asleep.
The ring
