A Missed Opportunity

Emily's POV
After JJ dumped me I didn't want to go to work. Too bad Declan basically drove me to work before school.

When I got there she wasn't, thank god. When Hotch said we didn't have a case, I went to Pen's cave.

"Hey Pen." Is all I could get out. She turned around but wasn't happy. "Hey my darling." She said forcing a smile. I pulled her into a hug and grabbed paperwork to work in her office.

After about an hour Declan started to text.

Hey mom. Have you talked to JJ today. She isn't returning my messages.

Have you tried her yet.

Mom she always responds to me.

Mother please try to talk to her. I am scared.

When you were away she told me if anything happened to her to tell Mateo Cruz. She seemed scared.

Ping her phone of something mom. I'm petrified.

"Pen can you ping Jennifer's phone? Declan says she hasn't replied to his messages." I told her.

"She's right outside. She has been since last night. Do you want me to go grab her?" I shook my head. Putting down the file I was writing in I texted him back.

Emily
She is right outside. I'm going to talk to her.

The doors opened and I started looking. I tried calling a couple times before going inside. There was a faint buzz and I found her phone on the edge of a fountain.

12 missed calls, 7 voicemails and 28 messages. Shit. I ran back to the BAU and ran to Cruz. "Where the fuck is my wife? Her phone was outside all night." I yelled. "She's gone. Shit." He said and pulled everyone into the conference room.

"In 2011 JJ left here for a little bit. Together Erin Strauss, JJ and I went to the Middle East for a special project. Project Integrity. We were looking for terrorists. One day we were driving and our cars were bombed. It killed two agents. Michael Hastings and Erin Strauss. A man named Tivon Askari was our man. He worked with us and caused the bombing. Eventually JJ was sent back home and we lost contact. About a month ago he was spotted in the US. Yesterday he was spotted in Virginia. He has her."

"He was here. And you didn't give her protection. He was fucking spotted in Virginia and you didn't protect her." I sort have yelled.

He just stood silent. "Derek, Reid go get Charlie and Declan from school. Emily, Garcia go through security cameras of every she has been since yesterday. Rossi, Cruz go through her office, tear it apart if you have to. Elle and I are going to talk to the people that sent her away." Hotch ordered. We all nodded and broke off.

Garcia pulled up a picture of Askari and went through every hour of footage since she had been gone. The cafe, her walk, outside the office.

"What about anyone that worked with him? He might not have gone specifically." I offered. She pulled up at least 10 pictures and kept looking.

When she finished she grabbed my wrist and led me to the conference room. We met everyone but Hotch.

"Mom." Declan said running over. "Where is she?" Charlie asked hugging me. "I don't know." I said rubbing her head.

"The kids should leave." Cruz said. "No. They aren't leaving. They could help with something. They've spent time with her when I wasn't." I said quickly.

"One of Askari's men was seen at the cafe. Another followed her here and one more sat waiting outside. It wasn't the same man for more than two hours. I can't see where he went." Penelope shot up.

"We have something too." Rossi added. "In a safe there was a file with everything on the project."

"What do we need to do to find her?" Reid asked.

"When I was looking into the cameras I was doing something else. I hacked into the Department of State's database to learn more. She has code to give Askari all of the information he needs. Hastings had the other code. I found a list of warehouses that were being used for the project. I can't narrow them down any more. I have my computer set up to notify me if the codes are ever entered. It looks like Hastings never died. I think he is in charge of all this." Penelope said.

"I agree. Integrity was on a need to know basis. And only 5 people knew." Hotch said rushing into the room. "Get ready. Together we are going one by one to look at every warehouse. Garcia if you hear anything let us know." He finished.

"Kids you have to stay with aunt Pen. As soon as I find her I will call and you can come see her. Don't leave this room and if anyone you don't know try's to talk to you here don't let them. I don't know if anyone here is in on it, but I'm not taking that chance." I sat them down and gave Pen a hug.

JJ's POV
When I finally came to I had a sack over my head. I was tied to a chair and something stuck in my arm. I was out again.

This time I had my arms chained together and tied to a chain. At least there want a nasty ass sack over my head.

"Ah Jennifer." Came from behind me. "It's been a while." There was a computer in front of me. Shit.

"Do you want to give me the codes?" He taunted. Asshole. "Fuck off."

"You should treat me nice." He spat and grabbed my face. Someone behind him grabbed a stock. No, not a stick. It had prongs. I'm about to get shocked.

There was a sharp pain in my torso as he kept asking. It went on forever.

There was a sharp pull on my hair and water was poured in my mouth. My head jerked forward and I tried to spit it all up.

All I could think is Emily. The way I hurt her. What if she doesn't realize I'm gone. What if she didn't care. I told Declan what to do but what if she gives up.

No. She wouldn't give up. Not on me. Not after everything I did. She would understand. I told her to not run into danger alone, when I did exactly that.

My thoughts were interrupted by a blow to my stomach. His fist hit right on my rib. "Why the fuck are you trying. It's not like I have the only codes. You need mine and Hastings. But you killed him. He's dead and his code went with him."

He smirked and dragged out another body. Fuck. Please don't be my team. It isn't Emily, Elle or Penelope. It's too small to be Spence and too tall to be Rossi. Is it Cruz? No. It's Hastings.

"Maybe not all of it was true." Askari taunted. He had men bring Hastings into an adjacent room. But he didn't torture him. Only me.

"Let's make it simple. If you don't give me the code, I will shoot him right here." He loaded a gun before walking in.
