A Missed Opportunity

over the edge

My arms were released and I crumpled to the cold floor. I needed to sleep. But I know if I sleep I won't wake up.

Just then the door opened. A tall figure ran over and put a hand on my cheek. "Hey baby." She whispered. It was Emily. "You found me." I smiled.

"I always will." "I can't do it longer. I can't take it." I whispered. "Yes you can. I am almost here. I am on my way to find you Jay. You have to keep going. Give the code if you have to, just stay alive." She said. But she started changing.

She was changing shapes. It was Hastings. "Give the codes. You have to keep going. For Emily and Declan and Charlie."

I crawled to the computer before typing. Hopefully Pen set up her computer. What am I talking about? It's Penelope, of course she did.

I added an extra word to the end before hovering my finger over the send button.

"Who told you about Declan and Charlie?" I asked. I turned and his fist made contact with my jaw. Shit. He pressed my finger on the button and that was it.

He wrapped my arms in the chain again and I was pulled up. My shoulder burned from the pressure. He entered his code and that was it. He hit the transfer button to move over the documents he wanted. I only had about an hour before the team would be here.

"What are you going to do with me now? You have what you want. Just kill me." I asked. I didn't want to beg but I'm tired.

"No. I think I might have some fun. You know you always were hot to me." Shit. He set the computer on a nearby table before walking over. I shut my eyes. I couldn't see what happens.

I felt cold hands on my torso. My shirt was being moved up and I felt his hand over my ass. I squeezed my eyes tighter and just waited.

They will get here. She'll be here. Emily will find me. Emily will save me.

Bang.

The hands were gone and someone let my wrists down. "Jay." She whispered. I opened my eyes and Emily was wrapping her arm around my head and torso.

"I knew you would find me. I kept going because I knew you would be here. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I love you. I never cheated on you. I love you so much Emily. You're my blackbird. I love you." I cried.

It all came out quickly. She squeezed me tighter and more tears came out. "I know. You are and will always be my Cheetobreath. I love you so much."

Thank God.

"Where's Askari" I asked. I needed this part of my life to be over. Over for good. "Derek is chasing him down now."

I started to get up before she tried to pull me down. I struggled to get away but I took off running. I heard Emily yelling behind me but I kept going.

I caught up to Derek. I started to run around a corner when he pulled me back. I grabbed his gun and kept running.

Askari was climbing to the roof. I got a shot at his leg and followed him up the ladder.

"Askari it's over." I yelled holding up the gun. He slowly started to back up so I moved closer. "Give up. It's over." I said. He grabbed a knife from behind his back so I ran closer.

My hand went for his wrist and he dropped it. We stumbled backwards and hit the ledge. It was at an angle so he slid down and fell. I tried to grab at the ledge but someone grabbed my arm.

"What happened to not running towards danger?" Emily taunted. "Shut up." I threw back. Derek ran to grab my other arm and helped me up.

"It's over Jay. They are gone." Emily whispered into my ear. I followed them down and was met with the rest of the team.
