Recap

Sure enough, Kuroo was a few feet to his left by the light switch, watching as Ushijima cocked the trigger of the gun and leaned forward only enough so Oikawa could hear his whisper.

"Then does the name Semi Eita sound familiar?"

———

It was dark.

Cold, too. He swore he felt a shiver run down his arms.

His senses were dim, but starting to come back around.

It felt like he was underwater, trying to push himself up to the surface to get a breath of air. He heard voices, their words blurring together.

Where was he?

His lungs were burning, as if he was holding his breath, and he found he couldn't remember much - his head hurt so bad.

He was jarred by a rough shake, unknowingly taking in a gasp and coughing as consciousness crashed back down onto him again. The voices sharpened, he could distinguish words now, and he had to shut his eyes again at how bright it was.

"Easy, Kageyama. Take it easy."

He knew that voice.

The light seemed to be blocked by something, and he hesitantly opened his eyes again to find himself looking up at someone.

Familiar brown eyes stared back down at him, seeming worried. "Thought I lost you for a minute.. you alright?"

"I think so." He frightened himself with how weak his voice was, dwelling on it for only a few seconds before having to do a double take as he recognized who was hovering over him. "Suga-san?"

The figure nodded, lips breaking into a wide smile. "Yeah, it's me."

Kageyama coughed again weakly as he was pulled up into a sitting position, assuming he must've collapsed or something, his head falling against Suga's shoulder as his body sagged against the deputy for support. "Are you.. okay?"

Suga wrapped his arms around the younger boy as tight as he could without potentially hurting him, squinting his eyes shut as he held Kageyama close against his chest. "I'm fine."

He felt his heart clench pitifully as he listened to Kageyama's raspy breathing, absently tracing soft circles against the cadet's back with his index finger. "They won't hurt you anymore, I promise."

Something about that statement brought flimsy tears to Kageyama's eyes that he couldn't force away, and he nodded to the best of his ability while sniffling quietly.

"Listen to me," Suga pulled away slightly in order to see Kageyama's face, gently brushing his thumbs beneath the younger's eyes to clear away his threatening tears. "I have to get back to Daichi and the others, I need you to stay here. Follow every direction you're given, even if seems stupid. Understand?"

Kageyama nodded stiffly again, trying to savor Suga's presence for as long as he could. "Be careful." He managed to rasp out, wincing at the effort it took.

"Of course I will." Suga said quietly, running his hand up and down Kageyama's back for a few more seconds before turning around as he felt Iwaizumi's presence, frowning expectantly.

"You ready?" Iwaizumi raised a brow, gaze straying down to Kageyama.

He felt bad, he did. He had never held a grudge against Tobio, not like Oikawa had at least. It did hurt a bit, seeing him like this.

"Yeah," Suga untangled his arms from around Kageyama, getting up and smoothing his sleeves to stall for time. "I am."

"See you out there, then." Iwaizumi gestured to the hall with his head, earning a pat to the shoulder from Suga as the boy walked past.
