Recap

Oikawa felt his heart nearly stop in his chest, eyes going round as his breath stuttered in his chest. "What? Spit it out, what about them?"

"They know we have Semi!"

———

"How?"

Kunimi had no idea how to answer the question, just stared at his leader despairingly as he watched Oikawa's expression shift slowly.

"How did they find out?"

"We have no idea." Kindaichi frowned, shaking his head as if that proved his point while doing his best to hold eye contact.

Oikawa murmured a curse under his breath, spinning around sharply to where Matsukawa was taking long strides towards him, a grim expression on his face. "We don't have anybody to protect us now, do we?"

"We can take care of ourselves." Mattsun whispered reassuringly, waving Kunimi and Kindaichi away dismissively without looking at them while anchoring his full attention on Oikawa, who was starting to fidget and shift his weight nervously. "We can do it, we've done it before."

"We should start thinking of how to get out of here, then. We're pinned if we stay in this hall." Hanamaki introduced himself into the conversation too, for the first time not trying to make a joke of the situation as he focused his attention on Oikawa as well.

"And lead them home? No, we're defenseless there," Oikawa shook his head, waving his hands a little in an attempt to calm down while looking around briefly for Iwaizumi.

Even if his ego despised needing to look to his deputy for help - especially after their last little tussle - it was natural. His eyes just immediately turned to seek out the familiar face.

"Then we need to get out somehow." Matsukawa kept his voice low, staring pointedly at Oikawa and biting the inside of his lip as he tried to think of another idea. "If Nekoma is still gathered outside then we can't all get past them at once, but we could try to work around them."

Oikawa finally looked up at him, eyes frantic and unfocused. "How? We'll be seen, there's no chance!"

"We send a decoy."

All three cadets turned slowly towards the voice, and Oikawa couldn't help the way his lips pursed into a faint smile of relief.

Iwaizumi.

"But then comes the matter of who it'll be?" Hanamaki gestured his deputy to step closer so the conversation wouldn't have to be so loud, a brow raised expectantly. "We can't just send someone out, they'll be killed."

"I'll go. I got us into this, I can probably get us out." Oikawa's voice came out a little steadier than before, nodding as if trying to reassure himself as much as his cadets. "If Ukai is here too, it's a double deal. I take care of him and find a way out for us."

Mattsun let out a baritone hum of disapproval, eyes narrowed slightly as he glanced behind his shoulder into the dimness of the hall. "If we lost you, what would we do? We'd be completely defenseless."

"That's why you have Iwa-chan. If I don't come back, he'll take care of all of you."

Hanamaki frowned, turning his focus to Iwaizumi as if trying to get some sort of agreement. "You can't be serious.."

Iwaizumi blinked in surprise, eyeing Oikawa out of his peripheral vision and clasping his fingers together to hide the fact his hands were shaking. No, I'm not losing you. "If that's the way we're going to do things, then yes, we're serious."
