After receiving a nod and a wince in response, he furrowed his brows and smiled in determination.
"It's time to get Kageyama back. Game on."
———
Before he knew what he was doing, Kageyama had bolted forward and rammed his shoulder into Oikawa's chest just as he pulled the trigger, knocking them both back into the nearest wall as Oikawa let out a surprised yelp.
Semi's eyes widened, recovering from the shock and watching as the bullet embedded itself into the ground safely away from him. He hadn't been hit.
Tobio had saved him.
Quickly though, Kageyama's lack of strength began to peer through as within a few moments Oikawa was able to get him off and shove him hard against the wall instead. "Well done, Tobio-chan." He seethed, watching the cadet gasp in a breath of air as his back collided roughly with the stone. "You're always full of surprises."
Kageyama felt pain bloom through his shoulder blades as they scraped against the wall, grimacing and narrowing his eyes as he tried again to summon a spurt of strength. "You're outnumbered." His voice was strained, as if holding Oikawa off took more energy than he anticipated.
"Outnumbered?" Oikawa chuckled grimly, pulling Kageyama forward by the collar of his shirt before shoving him back again, earning a yelp of pain. "Oh, Tobio-chan.. I've practically already killed you."
Kageyama took another labored breath, furrowing his brows as he tried shouldering Oikawa away to no avail. He felt his strength ebbing away much quicker than he thought it should've, looking around for something in arm's reach he could use as a weapon.
"What a shame, I was really hoping I could keep you alive just long enough for your poor excuse of a leader to see you like this." Oikawa tutted his lips and shook his head, tone perfectly even as if it took no effort keeping Kageyama pressed back. "But all good things must come to an end, hm?"
But before anybody could so much as take another breath, a hand hooked over Oikawa's shoulder and yanked him away so fast Kageyama barely had time to blink.
Semi was in front of him within nearly under a second, keeping him safely guarded while backing Oikawa up nearly against the opposite wall with insults that were blurred in Kageyama's ears as he tried to steady himself.
A flicker of satisfaction passed through his chest as he watched.
Oikawa looked nervous, flinching each time Semi advanced another step and trying to defend himself with all sorts of nasty threats that clearly weren't working.
But the moment was cut short.
The door flew open, and with another half-inaudible shout Semi was hauled backwards and shoved down to the ground by the new cadet with a yelp as one arm pinned painfully beneath his shoulder on contact with the floor.
Kageyama's brows arched as he tried to clear the ringing from his ears and rush to help, but by the time he'd even managed a few steps the same figure had swung their elbow backwards and nailed him straight in the ribs.
He winced, agony rushing through his chest, struggling to take a solid breath as he reeled back to use the wall for support.
While doing so, he caught a glimpse of their face and felt a foreign sort of sadness creep into his heart.
It was Iwaizumi.
Semi had been laying on his side, trying to recover himself from the nagging pain while attempting to heave himself up to his feet again - only for Iwaizumi to shove him back down and keep him down with a boot placed painfully hard on his chest.
