Quick A/N before this starts! We're almost nearing the end, everyone! Couple more chapters and a couple more plot turns and this will be the conclusion of the (hopefully) first story of the 'series'. I've started plot points for the possible prequel/sequel, I just wanna see if any of you would be interested in a possible extension of this?? I'll talk more about it later, on to the story! :)

Recap

They were being watched.

Kuroo knew they were in there.

----

Kozume Kenma had never felt fear quite like this.

He always took pride in being able to hide his emotions behind a blank mask of boredom, but now he felt as though that mask was being split right in two, leaving him a completely open canvas.

He could feel his heart raging in his chest, the beating loud in his ears as he watched Kuroo disappear out of the hall.

It was like his life had slipped right through his grasp.

His lips started to move around the syllable of a name as he tried to somehow get Kuroo to turn around, to get him to stop only for a moment to realize how this would end.

But he couldn't get his voice to leave him.

What would even come of Daichi's death? Was there some sort of benefit he couldn't understand? Wouldn't Karasuno just turn around and become a formidable enemy - except then with Sugawara Koushi in power?

Having temporary control over the city couldn't have been that important, not if it meant killing an ally who had only stayed neutral and maintained his own boundaries, not if it meant the loss of a friend who had been so beneficial to them.

Beside him loomed Kageyama, watching Kuroo through narrowed eyes. He'd been silent, thankfully so, understanding that if he tried to get attention he'd be killed.

But he looked like he wanted to say something.

Eventually, his resolve broke and he turned steely eyes to Kozume. "I thought Oikawa-san was with you guys," he started off slowly, brows drawing together in a sort of confused concern that didn't look too good on him. "Where is he?"

"Don't worry about it," Kenma muttered sharply, gesturing a shoulder at Kageyama as if that would somehow get the point across for him to stay silent. "Just stay there and be quiet until you're asked otherwise."

Kageyama eyed him, expression slightly pinched as if offended, but obliged and fell into another heavy silence with a huff.

It was too quiet.

Too quiet even with Kuroo starting to speak with a venomous grin, trying to lure Daichi down the stairs. His voice echoed too much, but it sounded hollow.

Kenma kept his eyes focused on Tetsurou's back, leaned his weight against one hip so he could anxiously jiggle his leg. Nothing had even happened and he still felt that creeping dread seeping into his chest - felt that if he took his eyes off of Kuroo for even a second he'd be killed.

"Kenma-san?"

His shoulders lowered in acknowledgment though he didn't turn his focus, humming inquiringly as he felt Lev's shadow fall over him. "Yes?"

"What should we-"

"Hold back until Kuro gives us further instructions." He responded firmly, before pausing and biting down on his lip as he realized he had been directly asked for orders. The cadets were turning to him because they knew Kuroo couldn't protect himself and the whole of the mafia at the same time.
