..................
In the early morning of the next day, I thought I was the first one awake as I had spent the remainder of yesterday resting from Draco and I's exhausting travel, leading me to, in turn, wake up early. Deciding to grab myself a glass of water, I found that I wasn't exactly alone and sitting on the table with a mug and magical framed photo was Andromeda. She hadn't noticed my presence yet so I watched her caress the picture and silently allow a few tears to fall into her lap.
From where I was standing, I could easily notice that it was a black and white wedding photo of her and her husband, Ted Tonks. They were dancing, and I could spot the white of Andromeda's dress, swaying from side to side. Even from the distance I was standing at, I just knew how utterly happy she looked in the picture.
And it was just at the moment, the floorboards creaked beneath my shoes, making Andromeda snap out of her trance and glance at me with surprise.
"I'm sorry," I rushed out quickly as I found myself walking forward in apology. "I didn't mean too, I was just—"
"Don't apologize, love." she smiled sweetly and patted the spot next to her on the table. I gratefully pulled the chair out and sat across from her, eyeing their wedding photo with interest. "That's your husband, isn't it?" I murmured, just as she placed the frame down next to me. With a chuckle Andromeda nodded her head, using a shawl to dab at her damp eyes. "You guys look really happy."
"We were." she mumbled quietly, dragging a thumb across the photograph again. "We were." I noticed her lip quiver again then she glanced away from the frame and chose to look at the window behind her. The sun was already up and the steam from her mug was beginning to die away. Standing from her seat, Andromeda composed herself by brushing her long navy blue cloak off. "Would you like some tea, dear? You must be hungry, I'll warm up breakfast."
"Tea is fine." I smiled. "Please, don't burden yourself with breakfast. If it's okay with you, Draco and I will make our own." I glanced at the frame sitting in front of me again, absentmindedly imagining myself and Draco in their shoes. Andromeda sat down again after warming the water with a small smile to her face at my request.
"Well, whatever makes you both feel at home, dear." she answered. But I was barely listening. I had my chin resting on my hands on the table, as I watched the couple sway from left to right with gleaming smiles.
"I lost my best friend and her mother the same day as you lost your husband." I whispered while staring at the happy duo in the photo. Andromeda's eyes snapped to me with surprise and sorry. "She was a cunning little witch and sometimes she drove me insane in the best ways possible." I laughed to myself. "But she was my first friend in Slytherin, who was a witch, of course. She stood by me even when I told her of my dark past. But then she had to leave, run for her life..."
I felt my eyes well up as I continued to stare at Ted Tonks in the photo. Andromeda silently reached over and grasped my hand, gently caressing the top with her thumb. I glanced up at her with teary eyes as she stood up and made her way around the table swiftly pulling me in for a hug. I pressed my face into her stomach, feeling her massage my hair as I felt myself shatter into pieces again. And then I felt Andromeda shaking, and I realized she was crying too.
