I stood alone at Hogsmeade station, hugging my arms to myself in the summer winds. It was nighttime, and the constellations above sparkled before my eyes, the only source of light, second to the moon, that barely emitted the evening sky. Constellations. I had learned about them in Astronomy class. There was one named Draco. And after learning that, I had decided right then and there that Astronomy was my favorite class, simply because every time I peeked into that telescope, I searched the sky for that single constellation. Draco. Latin for dragon.

It was strange to remember everything again from first year to now. All the little things that made me despise the Malfoy heir while growing up sort of faded with time. I remember thoroughly disliking him for the way he picked on Hermione for being muggle-born or the way he begrudgingly insulted Harry with every chance he received.

Despising the actions of others was questionable when I made so many mistakes of my own. Sure, I hadn't left the safe house that night willingly, but I never escaped his presence either. I could have, but I didn't. I just let it in, all the darkness, I let it in and I aided him in plotting to kill my own friend.

In the end I would learn that ultimately no one is perfect. Mistakes are made so we can learn from them. Second chances are offered for a reason. Only to those who truly stand a chance at redemption.

In the distance, I could hear the sounds of the Hogwarts Express approaching. I sucked in a shaky breath then backed away into the nighttime shadows just as Hagrid arrived on the platform. He hadn't known that I was coming here, and I hadn't managed to find an explanation for it. Sure, I could've told him that I wanted to visit my friends, but then again that would be a lie. And I decided that lying gets you nowhere, the truth is always revealed somehow, one way or another.

Within seconds the squeaking of the brakes echoed in my ears as the train came to a slow stop in front of us. Immediately, I noticed that the train was quite empty than I imagined. A few first years filed out towards Hagrid and the rest began hauling their belongings off the train and making their way to the enchanted carts that led them to Hogwarts.

As I watched the students exit the trains in their quiet manners, I felt my shoulders sag with defeat. I stood my from my spot in the shadows, taking in the silence of the train station just as the last bit of students disappeared. It wasn't till I stepped out of the shadows when I felt a sense of warmth around my neck. With confusion, I glanced down to find the serpent's eyes from my necklace, glowing a bright emerald green. It was getting warmer and warmer with every second making me reach up and unclasp it from my neck with panic. The moment I removed it, the glow died down, almost returning back to its normal color. Though it was still warm, extremely warm. I had worn the necklace all summer and it had never done that before.

What the f—

"I placed a spell on it." came a quiet voice. My heart dropped to my feet as my eyes flickered from the necklace to the shoes standing just before me. "It's connected to my ring. It only glows...when it senses that you're actively seeking me out while I'm near. And I'll instantly know your location."

Oh

I slowly glanced up at the boy towering over me, dressed in his casual black suit. The family ring on his finger was glowing, then suddenly began to fade. He followed my gaze to his hand, gently reaching down and removing the ring. When he removed it, there was a slight ring of burn embedded into his finger. A gasp escaped my lips as I took ahold of his hand immediately and examined the burn.
