N.E.W.T. level Charms class with Hermione Granger only meant one thing, I could not fall behind. Everyone in the class knew of Hermione's brains. She would answer the question the moment it was asked, sometimes not even bothering to shoot her hand in the air. I aspired to be just like her in my studies. I knew for a fact that she had earned a few more O.W.L.s than me, but that did not stop me from being more than hardworking. It was our first day of classes and Professor Flitwick ordered us to take out our homework from over the summer.

Hermione sat at a table to the right of me with Parvati Patil while I shared a table with Daphne Greengrass. Greengrass was surprisingly smart. Her and I weren't as close, but we were on friendly terms. I spent a good amount of the class time talking to Hermione though, and I could tell this annoyed Daphne.

Hermione was slightly on edge the moment she had seen me walk in. When class had begun, she leaned over and asked me a question. "Did you speak to Harry last night?" I nodded my head in response, hoping that she wouldn't confirm whatever Harry said the night before. "Do you believe him?"

"No!" I had muttered abruptly.

After a long pause, Hermione uttered something that made me pleasantly surprised.
"Neither do I." Then we spent the remainder of that class period talking about everything related to Charms and our summer homework.

I had Astronomy next with Luna Lovegood. A class that I had fairly enjoyed. I never realized how beautiful the scenery was from the top of the Astronomy tower until I actually stood there to take in my surroundings. You could see miles and miles of land from the top and it was quite a place to stand and watch the view from. I made a mental note to visit on my own time with Ambretta to keep me company.

When lunch time rolled around, I sat with Ambretta at the Slytherin table, scanning the Great Hall for Draco. I hadn't seen him all day and I couldn't help but wonder why. Ambretta took notice of this and let out a dramatic sigh.

"What?" I asked, feigning my confusion.

"You are so clearly miserable." She shook her head. "Pathetic."

"Hey!" I shot back defensively as I returned to eating my meal. "I'm not pathetic."

"He's obviously avoiding you." She rolled her eyes while carelessly twirling a strand of red hair around her finger. "Which makes you, pathetic," she finished. Anger boiled inside of me. I balled my hand up into a fist as a smirk adorned Ambretta's features. "Ah, there she is!" She grinned evilly.

My anger dissipated and was instead replaced with annoyance. "What on earth are you talking about, Sphinx?" I shot with irritation.

"You need to let your anger out and I know the perfect place."

"I'm not angry with anyone, or anything," I lied. She folded her arms while gesturing to my balled up fist. I uncurled it immediately, realizing that my nails were beginning to form crescents in my palm.

"You called me pathetic," I said with accusation.

"And I struck a nerve, didn't I? Think about everything else that's struck your nerve, think about the hurt Malfoy put you through, and all you did was love him. Think about that built up tension in your chest, waiting to be released. Think about whoever erased your precious memories, Edwards. Think about missing your mother, and not knowing where she is due to the one person who toyed with your head. How do you feel?" she asked with curiosity.
