//This is a chapter I've been considering for a while...why did her mom up and leave? I was thinking simple things, like a loss in the family (her own parents) or maybe her being scared and running away. But I've found a perfect reason sitting right in front of your noses. You just have to look.//

She'd worked up her reasons to go to the point that she was absolutely certain that, given normal circumstances, she would've already gone to Rob the first time she'd gotten the chance. She was biding her time, finding people who'd had similar experiences and bugged them until they'd begun wishing she'd stayed depressed.

In the same morning she planned to see Rob, she moved around almost like a zombie again- living in her mind, working out the best way to speak to the one she loved who was also the one who hated her.

Well, the way she'd go about it was simple. It would be a straight-forward thing if he clearly still hated her in person. If he was repentant- of just letting her go, he hadn't done anything bad in general to Y/n- she'd explain about the movie incident (it bugged her less now) and apologize for telling the girls about everything that happened that same evening.

She said goodbye to Nicole and Richard that morning, and Nicole gave her best luck for her real exams- the ones you took to show your high school how you were as a student. Elmore was weird like that- and Y/n smiled and thanked her despite planning to not do the exams at all.

Having never bunked off school before she felt a sense of exhilaration- and sight anxiety- as she waved at Gumball and Darwin. They waved back, unaware of what she was doing. She sometimes didn't take the bus, and this seemed ordinary to them. Only Anais peered at her speculatively as the fourteen-year-old turned the opposite direction to the school and sauntered off.

It only took ten minutes to get to Rob's place, and that was hardly long enough. When she saw it, Y/n felt her insides freeze. The unhealed gaping hole that was in her chest did a very painful throb. She inhaled for a moment, doing a breathing exercise she'd learned from her mom.

Then she stepped forward toward the warehouse. She hoped, for a sudden moment of realization, that he hadn't relocated. She got to the door too quickly.

It was in front of her as she debated. She had other options here. The Awesome Store owner- or rather, driver- knew her from Rob. God knew that he'd know about the void somehow. He had a Universal Remote, for crying out loud.

Then, after deliberating, she knocked. The deed was done. She now had to wait.

There was a familiar feeling rising in her throat. She tried to dislodge the lump there, but she had no success. Her brow prickled with sweat and her breath suddenly began increasing. The hole in her chest began to ache more than normal with the exertion as if there really was a gap over her heart. She clutched the area, her gasps audible in the morning air.

She knew what was happening, she'd been online too much the past month. Having a panic attack wasn't what she'd expected, though. She let out a small whine.

That's when the door opened.

"Oh god," She said, out loud.

He blinked at her.

"I mean... sorry, thinking out loud, er..." The panic seemed to ease at his appearance. He was here. Inches from her. If she reached out, she could touch his face.

"Y/n?" There was a general surprise in his voice. "What are you doing here?" The same question, a month later, was a lot kinder than before.

"Well, I... kind of... needed your help...?" She made her tone sound less hopeful than she felt.
