She was with Rob, reading the new book he'd gotten her. It was quite good. But there was this bit where the main character (Naomi Porter) was thinking that the guy she was with (James) only liked her since neither had a past. She was worried that once she got her memories back, they wouldn't be compatible anymore.

Y/n looked at Rob, who was staring out of the door into the main warehouse bit. He didn't seem too bored, mainly content. I mean, he had a guest. A similar thought occurred to her.

What if Rob didn't like her anymore if she had her real family back? What if she didn't?

Some part of Rob must be psychic since he turned to look at her at the moment. They stayed looking at each other for a second before she said,

"So, what're you going to do for New Year's?" It was obvious she was hiding something, but he didn't ask.

"Oh, I dunno... making it Gumball's last, probably." He said it so off-handedly. He was planning something.

"Go on," She urged. "Divulge the secret."

He shrugged. "Universal remote, maybe. Or, since Barbara Banana has shown the ability to predict the future in painting form, maybe I'll..." The world seemed to fall away. Her memory willed the scene on the t.v from months prior... she had said the words 'In Banana Joe's mom's portraits'...

"Rob," She stopped his evil train of thought. "Is... Barbara Banana... Banana Joe's mom?"

He nodded. "Yeah, why?"

"And she does paintings?"

"Mhm, yeah, why?"

Y/n stood up. "How far is her place?"

~time skip brought to you by Gumball secretly fangirling over Rob and Y/n~

Y/n hesitated by the Banana's front door. The doorbell was right there¸ why wasn't she pressing it? Rob seemed to notice her uncomfortableness and gingerly took her hand; he was still recoiling from Y/n's early Christmas gift from before and every touch made him think of it.

Y/n supposed she knew why she was suddenly so wary, her reaction on the t.v show was still sending chills down her spine. What had she said was in the painting? Something to do with her, Gumball and the family, and Rob? And the void...?

Rob sighed and said, "We could just leave if you've changed your- no, you're ringing the doorbell, nevermind." As he said it, her hand shot up; she had pressed the doorbell.

There was a moment of awkwardness where she would've preferred to run away, but her feet remained rooted to the porch. The front door opened a minute later. It revealed a banana (no surprises there) with a mustache and a goofy smile.

"Hello?" He said, smiling at them both.

Y/n took a deep breath. 'C'mon, just like you practiced...'. "Hi, we're Joe's friends, I just wanted to see if he wanted to hang out."

Clearly, this wasn't something Joe's dad heard every day. His smile grew.

"Well! I'll just go get him, he'd love to know you stopped by! Who should I say it is?" He asked Y/n more particularly, Rob was kind of left out.

"Y/n. Oh, and Rob. If he remembers..." She trailed off.

It didn't bother Joe's dad with what she said, he just went off to get Joe. There was a moment of silence as they waited. They could've left then, and if they had to explain themselves, say they had an urgent appointment.

But they didn't.

Joe's dad came back with Banana Joe himself, talking animatedly.

"Yeah, they really came, son."

"Wow! Y/n has never come to see me before! This is so cool!" He whispered to his dad, but it carried to the doorstep. "She is the only person I wanted to see!"

"Who am I, part of the furniture?" Rob asked Y/n who elbowed him in the side.

Joe and his dad returned to the door.

"Well, here he is!" His dad announced, smiling again. Then he left them alone.

"Hey," Y/n said to a gormless Joe.

"Wow." He replied.

"Uh," Y/n looked at Rob, who shrugged. "we heard that your mom does paintings..."

"Oh, yeah! She does tons of them! But, uh, who's this guy?" He asked, and Rob quietly muttered some quiet curse words. On the way to Joe's house, he told Y/n that he used to be best friends with Joe, so knowing that Joe had no idea who he was...

"Oh! This is Rob, my boyfriend," She introduced him. Rob and Y/n had never said they were 'boyfriend and girlfriend' and had never told another person that they were a thing. He looked at Y/n as if seeing her for the first time.

Banana Joe's eyebrow's raised. "Oh. Right. Cool. And here I thought that Hotdog Guy liked you."

"Wha-huh?" She raised her eyebrows.

He shrugged. "Yeah, apparently he only goes to school now to see you. He was going to drop out before you arrived, y'know, with Gumball and stuff,"

"Oh do I?" Rob muttered.

"But when you turned up he just suddenly seemed to change his mind."

Y/n felt slightly unnerved. Her boyfriend was right next to her, for God's sake. And this tiny banana was talking about another guy liking her? What the what, man?

"Well, anyway, can me and Rob see some of your mom's portraits?" She asked when she saw that Joe was going to speak again. He nodded.

"Sure."

He took them to the garage where his mom was currently working on a painting. He went up to her and introduced Y/n and Rob. He had to be reminded of Rob's name, which was kind of annoying.

"Hello," She said to them both. Y/n went up to her.

"Okay, so," she looked over her shoulder and as they rehearsed, Rob was trying to distract Joe. "this might be a weird question, but have you painted... me, lately?"

Barbara smiled dolefully up at Y/n. "I think I have, Miss or Mister or Non-Binary reader," Y/n looked confused.

"Uh, my name is-"

"Go have a look," Barbara interrupted, and Y/n was forced to go look around the garage. There were no more than 30 or so paintings, some depicting Gumball on whatever shenanigan was happening, others, on random things. Her eyes scanned the pictures one by one, in case she missed herself in one.

Her eyes stopped on one. It showed Felicity's car, with the bunny herself and Y/n out with the bags. It was when she moved in with the Watterson's.

She kept scanning. There was another of her when she first kissed Rob. And that was on display to anyone coming into the garage. Her cheeks heated up. She quickly glanced at another. It was her birthday when the cake was dropped.

But no falling into the void/Rob/herself with Rob/the Watterson's and Y/n and Rob falling into the void.

She sighed and went to Barbara's side of the canvas.

"Mrs... Banana... Do you have any more-" She stopped. The little banana smiled at her and asked-although Y/n didn't register it- if she liked the painting. Did she?

It was the one she was looking for. She shivered- she'd never been so cold... at the sight of herself, crying out silently, forever in painting form.

Rob's hand rested on her shoulder.

"No," His voice seemed to say.
