"So how's this nemesis work coming along?" Y/n asked as she and Rob strolled up the sidewalk back to the Watterson's house. They'd been talking about random things all evening, and at some point, Y/n realized she had to get home or she would've had only ice-cream for dinner.

Rob shrugged. "Not well, I mean, both times I tried to set up a trap, you'd distract me..."

"Oh, God, sorry," Y/n said, feeling bad for stopping Rob's only purpose in life.

"It's fine, Y/n, I don't mind." But clearly, he might. Y/n really felt bad. "At least I have one friend. We are definitely friends, though? I mean, is this a bad trick or something...?" He trailed off, under her slightly ticked off gaze.

"How many times must I tell you? Yes, I'm your friend. Hopefully your best friend?" Now Y/n was asking the sheepish questions. Rob had brightened up at her response.

"Of course! Maybe you could help me with this nemesis stuff," He suggested. "I have tried other ways to destroy Gumball," She winced when he said 'destroy' with much relish, "but they haven't really worked. He doesn't even notice!"

It really annoyed him, Y/n realized, that Gumball didn't notice his efforts. She had a moment, though, when she had to stop and pretend she was coughing and doubled over when she thought of him in a Japanese Schoolgirl outfit, annoyed that Senpai wouldn't notice him.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"What?" Y/n wheezed, looking up and still imaging the Yandere Simulator girl above her. She really struggled with her next sentence. "I just- er- ha- ahem- nearly died by... choking on.... A fly,"

Okay. There was something wrong with this girl. It was clear.

Rob just blinked at her with a small smile on his face. "A fly."

"Yes. That is- y'know- what happened."

"Okay..."

They didn't speak for the remainder of the journey back to her house.

When they got back, yet again Gumball and Darwin were waiting on the steps. Luckily, they only had missing posters this time, and not a giant sign emblazoned with the words 'HAVE YOU SEEN Y/n WATTERSON?', thank God. But Gumball's 'friend' Penny was also there, strangely wearing a bright pink princess dress with a pointy cone-shaped hat.

"Hey, Penny," Y/n called with a smile, and the spud with a blank emoji face cut into it- I mean, Penny replied.

"Hey, Y/n. Gumball and I were about to do some last-minute practicing for the play I told you about," Y/n sensed she wasn't finished, and as she went to go up the steps to the front door, she spoke again. "you know, we do have a spot in the choir that needs filling..."

Y/n shrugged, desperate not to make a feeble excuse about how she couldn't sing for anything- then it came to her. "I don't know," She deliberated, "Miss Simian wants me to join the debate team because I can write a great essay."

"Oh, okay. But I will see you there? In the audience, I mean," She smiled hopefully. Y/n nodded and Gumball and Penny went inside. Darwin stayed on the steps, absent-mindedly speaking to a ladybug.

Y/n turned back to Rob.

"I'll see you in the same place?" She asked, smiling. Rob shrugged.

"You did look pretty tired this morning, though."

"I was tired, but I'd stay up all night if you want me to come down to the basement... wait, how did you see me this morning?" She asked, suspiciously.

"Oh, uh," Rob pretended to watch the horizon so he didn't have to look directly at Y/n. "I was watching from the bushes as you got onto the bus."

"Dude," She lightly tapped his shoulder. "That's creepy! If you're watching someone from the bushes, make it Gumball, your nemesis? Geez,"
