'something in your kiss just told me'

Diana sat in her room staring at a picture of her mother, wracking her brain trying to figure out who that was. She remembered her eyes. She had the prettiest kind of pale blue eyes. But that was it. In fact, all day she'd felt forgetful. One thing she was sure she remembered, was her and Kai's encounter on her birthday. They hadn't talked about it since she came back. A thing they always seemed to do when their unspoken thing got close to being spoken.
Should she say something? She didn't want to seem needy or clingy. He saved her life, more than once. Feelings definitely weren't one sided. But she wasn't sure how he'd act. He was a very complex person, he always confused her. James walked into the room to see Diana staring off into space. "Interrupting something?"
She was knocked out of her thoughts but smiled to James. "Of course not! Come in."
"How are you feeling darling?" He sat down next to her.
"Honestly, a little off."
"How do you mean?"
"Okay, uh-" she grabbed her mother's picture. "Do you know who this is?"
James looked to see if she was joking, "that's Lillian, your mother. She passed away some time ago."
She looked to the picture with a confused face. Her mother's dead?
"Oliver." She said.
"What about him?"
"I keep thinking about that name but I can't picture a face. Who is he?"
"My younger brother, you met him in school. Taught him a bunch of things before he passed away." James sat up in his chair.
"He passed away." She looked to the side with a pout.
"Do you remember Katherine?"
"Mmm." She thought for a second.
"What about how you turned into a vampire?"
"Oh! I know that one!" But she stopped short. "Well I know it was bad."
"Darling, do you remember what happened just before you died?"
"What, recently? Yeah I was fighting Hero and-" realization dawned on her. "He bit me, in the shoulder.
"Perhaps the memory loss is taking its place on you since you've already died."
"I can barely remember anything before coming back from Runa's tower."
"Bloody hell." He was unsure what to do in this situation.
"Well what do I do? Talk to Anastasia?"
"That spell with Nik's blood was apparently a one time thing." He put his chin on his fist.
"So- what I just...forget everything?" She choked.
"I'm afraid I don't know what else to do."

Kai felt his head feel foggy all day and shook it off when Diana came into the room. All day he kept wondering if he was supposed to say something about their conversation before she died. If he was supposed to speak about their unspoken thing. She smiled to him and he stood up to greet her.
"Hey." He tried not to feel awkward.
"Hey." She was nervous.
"What's up?" He asked after a split second of silence.
"Nothing, just wanted to see you." She put her hair behind her ear.
He smiled softly, not smirked, smiled. "I uh- missed you. When you were...dead." He felt embarrassed.
"I missed you too. Kai you're so-" she trailed off.
"What? Handsome? Charming? Funny?-"
"Loved." She exhaled nervously. "You're loved."
He scoffed. "By who?"
"By me," she put her hands to his chest. "I know that's not something your hear all the time. And I don't expect you to say it back- I don't even want you to say it back. I just wanted-" she sighed. "I just love you."
Why? Was his one question. He took a minute to speak. "I've- I've never been loved before." He felt embarrassed to say.
"I know. I've never been in love before. But I love you."
He leaned forward abruptly and kissed her, almost knocking her over. His hands in her hair as he kissed her softly. It was a kiss of passion, of longing, of love. A kiss that was long overdue. He stopped, unsure. Before going to lie his lips on hers again. One of her hands rested on his while the other went to his cheek, rubbing it softly. They finally stopped and leaned against each other's foreheads. He chuckled breathlessly and she smiled.
She took another look into his eyes. Those damned eyes. So blue, so beautiful, so cold and captivating. They took a hold over her, they were burned into her brain. They were something she wouldn't forget.
She grabbed his hands with hers lightly, and put them down. She kissed his cheek and he closed his eyes, both wishing that moment would last forever. "Goodnight, Kai." She fought the urge to cry as she turned around to walk out of his room. He stood there, feeling stupid giddy. That was the first time in his life he'd ever heard those words. Words he wasn't angry about playing in his mind over and over again.
Diana put the last bag in her car trunk and got in the passengers seat as she gasped with tears overflowing. James put a hand through her hair, "we don't have to do this. I'm sure Anastasia can figure something out."
She sniffed and tried her best to wipe her eyes. "I know she will. But I can't be a burden to everyone until then."
"Darling you will never be a burden to us." He grabbed her hand.
"I just need to start over until it's ready. I can barely remember what just happened."
"I will get you immediately once we've found it." He told her firmly.
"I know , James. Thank you." She smiled.
"What are friends for?" He smiled cheekily.
"I mean, for everything. You've always been there for me. Especially after first turning. If I don't know who I am, I at least feel some kind of safe knowing you're watching over me."
Their fingers interlocked and he squeezed her hand once before he let go. She looked to her house one last time and wiped more falling tears as memories began to slip her mind.
"Ready, darling?"
She exhaled heavily with emotion. "Yeah, let's go."
