'felt that when we got close in the dark'

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

It's been a couple weeks since Diana had slept. She spent her time trying to get adjusted to life. Hanging out with Damon, Anastasia, James, and recently, Kai. He surprisingly made a good friend. But no friend knew she was trying so desperately not to fall asleep.

The night she came home was the first night she slept without it just being dark. In Runa's tower, she'd sleep dreamless, and emotionless. But coming home was one of the worst nightmares she'd ever had. Every time she laid in bed and closed her eyes she saw Runa. Whether it was tearing Diana's body apart, stripping her of her dignity she knew one thing was for sure. Runa was not getting off her mind anytime soon.

James and Caroline tried really hard to help her, Bonnie and Anastasia tried all sorts of spells. But if Runa was still haunting her dreams, she'd never be able to speak again. Even her happy thoughts were evil witch infested. Going in her own head to that happy childhood dream was quickly torn apart with darkness and bad memories.

The next song on her phone played love me til tomorrow comes. Her all time favorite song. After spending a year alone in the dark, she hated the sound of silence. So music and other people's conversation was her saving grace. She got up to dance in her room as she felt her eyes get heavy with sleep. She lifted her arms and slowly swayed and spun around the room as the beautiful noise filled her ears.

She finally felt her mind become empty, focusing on her movements. She willed herself awake and pushed the exhaustion in her body away. The door opened and she assumed it was Damon watching in amusement.

"Very beautiful dancing, were you a ballerina in a past life?" The familiar voice said.

She stopped suddenly and turned around. how long have you been there? She signed to Kai.

"Not long." James had been teaching him more. It didn't take. so Kai did a spell that made him automatically understand what Diana would sign.

Standing there is creepy she turned off her phone.

He walked into the room. Better? He signed with an annoying smile.

She rolled her eyes and gestured for him to sit down. He did, happily, and grabbed her pen. you look tired he wrote.

She scoffed with no sound and took the pen, cause that's what every girl wants to hear.

I'm just saying it's probably not healthy

You worried about me? She smiled, teasing.

Absolutely not, but it may be my subtle way of asking if you're sleeping

She took a minute, not exactly

What's keeping you up?

She shook her head and put down her pen as if to say nothing. Kai obviously knew she was lying.

You don't have to lie...that's my job

She made a "ha ha" face before sighing and turning to the notepad.

Bad dreams

Kai "ahhed" Those suck

Do you get them too?

He was unsure if he should tell her, if she'd even care. He'd been having this stupid guilt feeling ever since he took Luke's life. Especially after Liv came to kill him, claiming he destroyed her. He'd have them before then. Images of his dad being unnecessarily violent would always be something on his mind in the prison world while he slept.

You don't have to lie she wrote smirking.

He chuckled lightly and hesitantly wrote down his thoughts. No one in the gang really listened nor cared about how he was or what he was doing. Diana, James and Anastasia were the only ones being actually civil. They weren't here for everything that happened but when they heard about it they brushed it to the side, claiming much worse had happened just within the group.

They wrote on the notepad for hours, after a while moved on from less serious subjects to more pointless things. Diana had relaxed finally. A look too much. She felt sleepy, her eyes dropped as she felt her body fill with the exhaustion she tried so hard to fight. Kai looked over and noticed her head on his shoulder as she wrote. He smiled i think it's time we called it a night

I'm not even tired Diana silently scoffed again.

Liar

Vampires done need sleep

It was his turn to scoff. He gently took her pen from her hand and stood up. She went to whine but no sound came as he dragged her to the bed. She plopped down dramatically and crossed her arms as if she were a toddler throwing a tantrum.

"Good night Lady Salvatore." He joked as he turned off her light.

Her eyes widened slightly as those words rang in her head. Lady Salvatore, one of the things Runa would call her if she wasn't degrading Diana. Kai went to leave and she grabbed his hand abruptly.

"You okay?" He turned his head.

She nodded and signed an apology, letting go of his hand. Kai looked to the girl and felt another one of those pesky emotions coming to the surface. He knew exactly what it was like to have bad dreams, he never had anyone there to comfort him when he woke up breathless and tearful. So he internally punched himself and sat down on the chair next to the bed.

"Sleep, you'll be fine." He said. He tried to sound nicer but hadn't really mastered that yet. He wanted her to know he was here for her without actually saying the embarrassing words.

Tell me a story? She signed.

"I'm not your mother." He scrunched his eyebrows.

Indulge me she pushed

"Pfft, okay. Story story story. Uh." He looked around. "There once was, a Princess named." He spotted a green hardcover book on the dresser. "Princess Green. And a Prince named uh,"

Prince Charming?

"Good but shh let me tell it. Princess Green was taken away to a dungeon by an evil gremlin named...Rooster."

Rooster?

"Shh sleep." He covered her face with blankets. "Rooster wasn't nice to the Princess so Prince Charming decided to save her, singlehanded because he was so amazing."

Diana rolled her eyes.

"Then Princess Green came back home to be with her sisters Dana and Stephanie, who were at Ka- Prince Charming's mercy. The Prince and the Princess became surprisingly good friends. And Princess Green was reassured she never had to go to the dungeon ever again. The end."

Diana clapped sarcastically and Kai bowed.

"Thank you, thank you." He said.

Beautiful story

"I know, I'm amazing. Thinking of getting it published."

hardcover?

"Of course." He jokingly scoffed.

Diana hid her smile in the darkness, and closed her eyes with the reassurance she wasn't alone and finally safe.
