Chapter 21

Y/N POV

"Mason did WHAT!" Steve yelled over the phone.
"I know it's unbelievable baby. I can't comprehend he would do something like that." I felt a tear roll down my cheek.
"Baby, I'll come pick you up. Be there in five minutes." He hung up the phone and I leaned against the wall and started to cry. I held my knees to me chest and placed my head down.

Mason, My Mason. The kid who would sing to every song on the radio. The kid who would care for his family and me. Who would help me up when I was down. Who wouldn't even hurt a fly. He was the most kind man in the world, or so I thought.
So all the him going to work was actually him doing community service for killing Amanda.

I felt like I couldn't breathe, my heart was racing and my palms were sweating. I kept my eyes closed as more tears ran down my cheeks. I than felt a hand on my knee, disrupting my thoughts. I looked up and saw Steve standing there. With a comforting smile.
"Steve..." My voice trailed off and he wrapped me in a hug.
"Hi baby." He kissed my forehead and hugged me tighter. I just continued to cry onto his shoulder.
"Let's get you out of here." He helped me up and he wrapped his arm around my waist, very protectively. Which I loved. We hopped onto his bike and I held his torso tight.
"Hey, should we go get some food, you pick." Steve said. I sniffled had wiped away some tears.
"That would be great...let's get pizza." I said.
"Okay, pizza it is." We took off to the restaurant, ordered our food and we sat down at the park, under a tree. I started eating like a mad man, not caring what I looked like. Pizza was a comfort food and it's always made me feel better. I could hear Steve chuckle and as I scarfed down a slice.
"We're you that hungry?"
"Yeah, I was starving." I smiled. I wiped my face off and cuddled up into Steve's arms. He pulled me closer to him and kissed the top of my head.
"Im sorry about Mason, You know you guys were close." He sighed.
"Yeah, I just can picture him ever doing that to someone, it's not like him." I felt another year roll down my cheek. Steve wiped it away from me.
"Its gonna be okay Y/N, if your scared of him now, I promise you I will never let him hurt you again." Steve said with confidence. I knew Steve was talking about physical pain. But what Mason did caused me mental pain, that I don't think Steve can ever protect me from. I just smiled and kissed him.
"Thank you Captain." I smirked.
"Your welcome pirate." He smirked as well. I started laughing and we kissed again. I loved the feeling of his lips on mine.
"Do you wanna go home and watch a movie?" I asked.
"I would love to." He smiled. We got into his bike and drove home. As we were walking up the stairs to our apartment our neighbour Kate walked out her hers.
"Hey Kate." I said.
"Hey guys." She smiled.
"Oh by the way I think you guys left your stereo on." She said.
"Oh well thank you." Steve said with fear in his voice, but covered it up with a smile. She walked down the stairs and I looked to Steve in fear.
"We didn't even turn on our stereo this morning." I said in fear. We walked back outside and climbed up the fire escape and crept into the apartment. I realized the song that was playing was

We walked down the little hallway to the living room, Steve grabbed his shield and I grabbed my sword that we had leaving against the wall. Steve rounded the corner and stopped in his tracks.
"What? What's going on?" I whispered.
"I don't remember giving you a key." Steve said. I just looked at him confused and started to round the corner. I saw Fury sitting in a chairs looking at us. He looked at me in shock and I lowered my sword.
"You really think I need one." He replied.
"My wife kicked me out." He added.
"I didn't know you were married." I said.
"There's a lot of things that you don't know about me."
"I know Nick, that's the problem." Steve said whilst turning on the light. Fury was covered in blood and scrapes. I gasped and he quickly turned off the lamp. He was holding up a little device.
Ears everywhere
Steve rolled his eyes in annoyance and I just sighed.
"I'm sorry to do this, but I had no one place to crash." Fury said. He showed us the device again.
Shield compromised
"Who's knows about your wife?" Steve asked

"Just...my friends." Fury said as he walked over to us.
"Is that what we are?" Steve said angrily.
"That's up to you." He said. Suddenly he groaned and you could hear the sound of a gun shooting. I ducked down and Steve grabbed my fury's body and dragged him into the kitchen. He was gasping for air, as he got shot in the stomach and chest. Fury held out his hand and handed me a flash drive.
"Don't trust anyone." He said to both of us. Suddenly the sound of the door being kicked down radiating it through the apartment. As I protected Fury, Steve looked around the corner.
"Captain Rogers and Agent Y/N. I'm agent thirteen." Kate said.
"Kate?" Steve said confused.
"I've been assigned to protect you guys." She said and hurried over to Fury.
"On whose order?" I asked.
"His." Kate said. Kate pulled out a walkie talkie and started talking into it.
"Do we have a 20 on the shooter?" The other man on the side of the walkie talkie asked.
"Tell them I'm in purist." Steve said.

Steve's POV
I ran down the hallway and burst through the window into another building. I started running through the hallways of the office and breaking through doors. I watched as the shooter jumped down onto the roof of another building. I jumped through another window and threw my shield at the shooter. The person caught it with a metal arm and looked at me with anger. The shooter threw it back at me and I caught it in my chest. I quickly ran forward and looked over the ledge of the building. The shooter was no where in sight.
"Shit." I huffed.

Y/N POV
They took fury away and I remained on our bed, crying softly. Steve came through the door and looked at me.
"Are you okay?" He asked panicked.
"I'm good, what about you?"
"I'm good, but I didn't catch the shooter." He sighed defeated. I gave him a side hug and he leaned into me.
"We should go see Fury." He added.
"Yes." I said and smiled. He grabbed my hand and we drove to the hospital.
