Chapter 29

Y/N POV

As we began driving to who know's where. I could see the sadness and pain in Steve's eyes.
"Steve are you gonna be alright?" I asked.
"He didn't even know me." He sighed. All I wanted to do was wrap him in a hug and kiss him. I tried to move with these handcuffs, but the metal dug into my skin and I hissed out in pain.
"Are you alright?" Nat asked. I looked to her arm and saw blood soaking through the shirt.
"Are you alright?" I asked cocky, but I still had a hint of worrieness in my voice. Nat through her head back and groaned lightly.
"She needs help." Sam yelled to the two guards who were sitting by us. One of them sat forward and pulled out a stick that looked to be a taser. The guard pointed it at us and than pointed it to the other guard. They stabbed it in there neck and kicked them in their face. Their body falling down by our feet. I just looked to everyone confused, everyone had the same face. The guard removed their helmet and it was Maria.
"That thing was squeezing my brain." She huffed.
"Maria!" I smiled.
"Who's that guy?" She asked. Looking at Sam.
"Sam he's with us!" I said. She nodded her head and pulled out a set of keys. She unlocked each of our cuffs and our ankle restraints. We all stood up and Maria pulled out another device. It was glowing purple.
"Back up!" Maria warned. She leaned down and burnt a giant hole in the floor.
"Jump on my cue." She said. The truck came to a stop and we all quickly climbed out of the truck through the hole. We quickly all crouched and ran to the ditch and hid there. As the trucks continued to drive. The only reason we got out of that was because we were the last truck in the line. Maria began to run and we all followed her. She hopped into a mini van and started it up. We all got in, Sam in the front with Maria. Me, Nat and than Steve in the back. I continued to apply pressure to Nat's wound as she closed her eyes from the pain.
After a while we ended up at what looked to be an old bunker. We left the mini van and Maria unlocked the door with a code. It swung open we began walking down a dark, concrete hallway. Nat's arm was around my shoulder as she held my shirt to her chest. As we were walking a man came running towards us.
"She's lost a least a pint of blood." Maria's yelled.
"Maybe two." Sam added.
"Let me take her." The doctor yelled.
"She will want to see him first." Maria said. We ended up at the end of the hallway and Maria pulled backs a curtain. And there lying in a bed was Nick Fury.

What the hell. I thought he died

The doctor took Nat from me and Steve quickly wrapped his hand around my waist. In a very protective manner.
"It's about Damn time." Nick said.
"How are you still alive?" I asked.
"Lacerated spinal column, cracked sternum, shattered collar bone, perforated liver and one hell of a headache." Fury said. His voice tired and in pain.
"Don't forget your collapsed lung." The doctor added.
"Let's not forget that. Otherwise I'm good." Nick said. I just looked at him with disbelief. How is he alive after all of that.
"They cut you open, your heart stopped." Nat said.
"Tetrodotoxin B. Slows the pulse to one beat a minute. Banner developed it for stress. Didn't work so great for him, but we found a use for it." Nick said.
"Why all the secrecy? Why not just tell us?" Steve asked.
"Any attempt on the Directors life had to look successful." Maria said.
"Cant kill you if your already dead." Nick added. He looked directly at me. "Besides I didn't know who to trust." I just sighed and looked away. The doctor began to work with Nick and I pulled Steve aside.
"Can we talk for a second." I asked.
"Yeah sure." We walked to a corner of the room and I grabbed his hands.
"Are you gonna be okay?" I asked. "You seem pretty shaken up."
"Yeah...it's just. It's surreal seeing him again after 70 years. I don't want to fight him, but I know I have to." He sighed. I cupped his cheek and he grabbed my hand, he gently kissed the top of it.
"I know it's gonna be tough. But your the strongest man I know. You can do anything you put your mind to and I know you cable oh anything. I love you Steve Rogers and I promise to never leave your side." I smiled. I could see his eye start to get watery.
"I love you to Y/N and thank you for being by my side." He wrapped his hand behind the back of my neck, we both leaned in and gave each other a quick kiss.
"Love birds get your asses over here. We have shit to do." Nick yelled. We pulled away and smiled. He grabbed my hand and met up with the rest of the group.
We sat around a table, with a case sitting in the middle of the table.
Nick held up a picture of Pierce.
"This man declined the noble peace prize. He said peace wasn't an achievement, it was a responsibility. See it's stuff like this, that gives me trust issues." Nick said.
"We have to stop the launch." Nat said.
"I don't think the council is accepting any of my calls anymore." Nick said as he opened up the case. It revealed 3 computer looking chips.
"What's that?" Me and Sam said in unison. We gave each other playful smiles.
"Once the helicarriers reach 3000 feet. They'll triangulate with insight satellites, becoming fully weaponized." Maria said as he showed us a computer animation of what was suppose to happen.
"We need to breach those carries and replace their targeting blades with our own." Nick added.
"One or two won't cut it. We need to link all three of those carriers for this to work. Because even if one of those ships remain operational, a whole lot of people are gonna die." Maria said.
"We have to assume everyone aboard those carriers is Hydra. We have to get past them, insert the server blades. And maybe just maybe, we can salvage whats left..." Nick said. But Steve quickly cut him off.
"Salvage! We are not salvaging anything. We're not just taking down those carriers, Nick. We are taking down Shield." Steve stated.
"Shield had nothing to do with this?"
Nick said offended and in a protective manner. I knew Shield was like his baby, so this was gonna hit hard, taking down your own organization.
"You gave me this mission! This is how it ends!" Steve said angry. Why was his angry voice so sexy.
Compose your self Y/N, this is serious.
"Shield's been compromised. You said it your self. Hydra grew underneath your nose and nobody noticed." Steve added.
"Why do you think we're meeting in this bunker? I noticed." Nick said snarky.
"How many paid the price before you did." Steve snapped back. He just hung his head and Steve squeezed my hand tighter. I knew yelling at Fury wasn't easy for him. He kind of looked up to him.
"Look I didn't know about Barnes." Fury mumbled.
"Even if you had, would you have told me? Or would have compartmentalized that too?" Steve said said snarky. "Shield, Hydra. It all goes."
"He's right." Maria said. Fury looked to all of us and I just looked at Steve. He smiled down at me and kissed my hand, which was still in his.
Fury looked to Nat and she stayed quiet. He than looked to Sam.
"Don't look at me. I do what he does, but slower."
"Well..." Fury sighed. "Looks like your giving the orders Captain." I looked to Steve and a smug look appeared on his gorgeous ass face.
