TW: mentions of blood, pew pew shooty bois, and death
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For context, Nico is a homicide detective (one of the best due to his ability to talk to the dead) and Will is a trauma surgeon in a hospital. They are married in this, and this occurs after they receive news of Aphrodite's blessing (Bianca).
OC: Emily Greene. She's an intern who works at the hospital. Will is her supervisor.
"Come on! Don't make this difficult and give yourself up!"
Nico Di Solace was in a standoff with a murderer. After about an hour of tailing the getaway car, they managed to corner the suspect in an old abandoned field.
The fugitive refused to surrender. "Never!" he declared. "Over my dead body!"
Nico's hand reached tentatively towards his gun. He would only draw his weapon at the very last moment.
The man, who is later identified as Ulysses Ithaca, raises his own weapon. "Or, maybe yours."
Nico quickly draws his gun and is about to pull the trigger when-
Bang
Nico is in shock as a blinding pain spreads from his hip, right below his bulletproof vest. He clutches his side only to feel the wet warmth of blood seeping through his clothes.
His vision swirls and he feels himself starting to fall over. He falls to his knees and grabs his walkie.
"10-999! Officer down! Please!" he begged. "Someone please respond! I need backup!"
Bang.
Another bullet lodged into his shoulder, an impossible shot nearly hitting his heart.
He toppled over and curled his legs into him, praying to the gods that he can live. From the corner of his eye, he saw his assailant climb back into the old red getaway car and speed off.
Nico's vision clouds over, and his eyes start to droop when he sees the familiar red and blue flashing lights heading his way. He smiles and he slipped into unconsciousness.
"Doctor! Doctor!"
Will looked up from his paperwork and into the panicked eyes of his intern. "Dr. Greene. What happened?"
The young doctor-in-training nervously looked at the head trauma surgeon. She managed to sputter: "C-cop down. Gunshot wound above the hip and through the shoulder to the heart. Appears to have pierced the small intestine. No updates on the one near the heart"
Will stands quickly and grabs his coat. "Take me to them."
They race down the hall and to operating room 34. A nurse stops them and whispers something to the intern. She looks back at Will and whispers back to the nurse. Will grows impatient.
"Can we save a life? Or are we going to wait here while our patient slowly bleeds out?"
The intern turns to her boss. "His face needs to be covered while we operate."
Will taps his foot anxiously. "Why? Privacy? Privacy doesn't really matter when you're dying, Besides, I have to check on breathing and brain function while operating."
