"Are you sure you want to spend spring break in Texas?" Will clutched the handle of his suitcase tightly in his hand.

Nico looked at him. "We're in the Dallas airport, babe. I'm sure." He glanced at his husband's face again. "Besides, we leave after a few days. We can have the rest all to ourselves."

Will felt the blush creep up his neck. "Sounds excellent."

"I'm glad we could escape the cold, though." Nico muttered as they stepped outside into the Texan heat. "Oh, and I found your mom!"

Naomi Solace was leaning against a navy blue pickup truck in a pink tank top and shorts. She lowered her sunglasses at the two jacket-clad Di Solaces and waved them over.

"Isn't this weather cold for her?" Nico whispered, removing his jacket and resting it over his arm.

"She's from Texas, not Florida. Weather in the sixties never hurt anyone down here." Will muttered back. He stood up straighter as they approached the truck, his face beaming. "Hiya!"

"Hey, sugar!" Naomi's face split into a huge grin as she opened her arms for an embrace. "Howdy, Nico!"

Nico smiled at the enthusiasm of his mother-in-law. "Good morning, Ms. Solace."

The woman tutted. "Again, call me Naomi. I'm your mother as much as I am Will's." She peppered her son's face with kisses. "Why do you have to live so far away?"

"It's only New York." Will scrunched his nose.

"You two are gonna freeze up north!" Naomi frowned. "Look at you in your jackets!"

"We'll come down more often." Nico smiled as he was engulfed in a bone-crushing hug from Will's mother.

"Don't break my husband, ma." Will sighed. "He's important."

Naomi released Nico. "I missed y'all! Now come and get in the car so I can feed you!"

"I'll help you cook, Naomi." Nico offered. "It's the least I can do since you're letting us stay with you."

"Nonsense! It's my pleasure to have my son and son-in-law in my home!" She flicked on the air conditioning and turned up the radio. "Let's see if I can back up in this sucker..."

She did, after many attempts and almost hitting the cars behind her. Their fault for not paying attention to an old lady in a truck, Naomi defended.

They finally made it to her house, a cute little place with a flourishing garden in the front yard. Honeybees and other insects were thriving in the colorful flowers. Bright glass stepping stones snaked up the driveway and led to the front door.

"Welcome!" Naomi smiled. "Come on in!"

The interior of the home was just as lively as the outside, with picture frames and various art pieces stretching across the off-white walls. An old-timey record player emitted the static voice of a woman singing sweetly about an old lover. An acoustic guitar and a beat-up notebook lay on the chair next to it.

"Sorry about the mess." Naomi picked up the notebook and tucked it into a bright robin's egg blue bookshelf. "I've been trying to figure out a song idea I've had for weeks."

"Ma, you still write music?" Will set his bags down.

"You write music?" Nico was in awe.
