Chris:
"How come my Mum didn't include you on my 18 roses?"
Ate Mhairi and I are both sitting on the hammock this time while gently swaying it from time to time. I'm the one who swings it since my legs are longer than hers.
"It's because Auntie and Uncle thought I'm too young to be included for the 18 roses. And since I'm too small among all the lads, they've decided on not to include me."
I pouted a wee while reminiscing the moment of seeing her dancing with those pesky lads on the dancefloor. Yeah, I called them "pesky" because I'm in my utmost jealousy on that night, especially when Ate Mhairi's ex-boyfriend Nathan dances with her while staring at me with those annoying "Boo-hoo!" gaze on me. If only I'm this tall at that time, I might beat the utter s*** out of him, like seriously!
"O, why are you pouting like you're still sulking about it?" Ate Mhairi asked all of a sudden while giggling.
F***ing great, Neilson! Now she knows how I resented that annoying scene of her dancing with that jerk Nathan on the dance floor. Jeez, Chris! Keep your hair on, will you?
"W-Well, I-I'm still sulking on the fact that your Mum didn't include me to dance with you, you know! I mean, I could do what the other lads did in front of those people around on your birthday! I'm only ten at that time, and yet, I feel like they've taken the only chance I had to dance with my Ate Mhairi."
"Aw, c'mon, Chris!" She suddenly burst out laughing. "That's ten years ago already! You don't have to feel sulky about it anymore! You must be that tiny wee boy before that's why Mum didn't include you on my 18 roses!"
She couldn't stop snickering and laughing as soon as I glance at her. Are you for real, Ate Mhairi?! You really have no idea how big of a deal it is for me NOT to be part of your 18 roses. I mean, I'm not that small at that time, am I?
Ate Mhairi was still laughing and giggling with her palm over her mouth. I feel like she's constantly "mocking" me for sulking on that significant part of my childhood 'till now. She suddenly pauses as soon as she saw me staring at her with a miffed face.
"Right, okay! I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry, Chris." She said while stifling her giggles. "I just—I just find it so amusing knowing that you're still sulking from what happened years ago."
She puffs a wee breath to suppress the laughs that constantly comes out from her petite mouth. She bit her lip and clears her throat.
"So, what happened next? Have you managed to dance with me on that night?"
A sweet, engaging smile gently peeps and spreads across my mouth as the moments of her asking me if I could dance with her after she found me running away from the marquee flashes right in front of me.
"I was running away from the marquee when I heeded your voice calling my name. I was so pissed off from sitting on my own while seeing you and Nathan dancing on the floor."
"My ex-boyfriend Nathan?" She asked while smiling.
"Yeah." I heaved a deep sigh and frowned. "That—THAT guy you used to go out before."
"You know what, I could tell the utmost jealousy you feel for Nathan from the tone of your voice AND the look on your face. Don't tell me that you're jealous seeing him with me before, eh?"
